Re: Cool License Plates?
see this is what I just don't get about vanity plates...and Dave don't take offense to this...
What makes your plate cool is the "antique" status, I'd kill for a plate like that.
What irks me is that it says "DATSUN"...when in plain, clear view, to the left of the plate is also says "DATSUN".
People know already know what it is.
No guessing, no fun.
Its kind of like the dude in the BMW M3 with plates that read, "BMW M3"
WE know what kind of car it is...get creative

Alvin, out here in the land of salt filled winters and yearly state tech inspections, an "old" car is one from the mid 1990s. Cars and trucks that are 15 years or older don't even need a title for sale or registration! 20 years old qualified for Antique plates. 1988, antique? Bah! Even with the license plate, I get a ton of folks asking me what kind of car it is. No one under 40 has any idea what the hell it is. Even the folks above 40 are mostly clueless as I'm sure Datsun sold very few of these in New England in their day. Most folks who recognize the Datsun name ask if it's a 240z.
Now, the other reason for printing the obvious on the plate was that I planned to get an antique plate and I like that it now says Antique Datsun.
Finally, my move to NH is a temporary one. Robin and I have always planned to be out here for 5 to 7 years, then move back to Portland. I can't register the plates in Oregon but I can move them with me and forever have an Antique Datsun plate to hang on the garage wall.
Them be my reasons.

Re: Cool License Plates?
Um, Alvin, I've got the same tag as Dave but Maryland's version does not have "Antique" above it.
Here's where I make the distinction: On a new car, a tag proclaiming the model has more to do with the owner than the car. On an old car, it's all about the car.

Ahhhhh....now I get it. You moved temporarily from Oregon to Maine just so you could have Antique Datsun plates to hang on your garage wall.Dave wrote:Now, the other reason for printing the obvious on the plate was that I planned to get an antique plate and I like that it now says Antique Datsun.

Ack! Got thinking Portland, OR to Portland, ME. DOH! Besides, Maine...New Hampshire...Vermont...what's the difference? Long, cold winter, funny accents, and pretty fall colors.Dave wrote:Maine????ppeters914 wrote:Ahhhhh....now I get it. Nice assortment of plates.
The antique plates in CT say "Early American" at the bottom. Like there aren't any old cars that weren't made in the US.

Re: Cool License Plates?
I think reading it as "antique datsun" is kinda cool.
I guess "69 SRL" is not as obvious as I thought it would be - I had a guy on a big Honda Goldwing pace me on the freeway a few weeks ago and yell "What year?" Took a few tries to get "69" across to him, kinda hard at 70+ mph! I've thought about putting a "1969" sticker on the quarter window.

It's legit. The car is parked in the Fells Point area of Baltimore Maryland. Real car, real plate.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

Re: Cool License Plates?
OK, what about license plate frames?
How many of you have "vintage" Datsun dealership license frames?
Or something special or different?
