Water pump--removal of fan clutch and pulley

All,

I am stumped. I removed my water pump, then removed the fan and now down to removing the fan clutch that sits in front of the pulley. There is an aluminum looking piece in the center with what looks line an allen head "nut" in the middle. My question, how do I get this piece off? I read in the forums that someone took channel locks an was able to get it off. I tried that but it won't budge. Isn't there a nut underneath this piece that unscrews allowing the remainder of the fan clutch and then pulley to slide off? Or, am I missing something?

Thanks
Matt

The allen screw is reverse thread. Try "tightening" it to remove it...

Thanks for the advice. What happens now that I broke the allen head key off in it? I tried using a pair of vice grips with no luck. Am I out of luck and should just get another pulley?

The last one I removed had just enough of a lip that I could get vise grips on if needed. The last resort? Hacksaw...

Yep, I think its going to be hacksaw time. Thanks for the advice.

Take a acetylene torch and heat up the outer ring that is "Pressed on" the best you can and once cooled down use good brand of penetrating oil on the whole thing and let set overnight.

My allen screw spun off with 0 trouble (reversed treads as already posted). Then a 4" (guessing) gear puller and pulled off the clutch and dual pulley without any 'brute' force.

IF the gear puller is 'brute' force type reheat and re-soak OR you will bend the pulley.
