Jutter in reverse

Post by impinhigh1 »

All,

Need some diagnostic help with my 68 1600 with all stock drive train.
After the car has been driven for 60 minutes or so, it will “judder” as the clutch engages the reverse gear. When the car is cold coming out of the garage it will engage in reverse and back up smoothly. This may also be happening while taking off in first but it’s not nearly as pronounced. The clutch pedal engage/disengage point is close to the top of the pedal travel.

Thanks for the help!

Judder

My 70 was doing this and the clutch engaged at the top of the travel, just as yours is doing. I pulled the engine/tranny and put in a 5 speed with new clutch. The old clutch, upon examination, appeared oil soaked. The engine rear main was OK, but the tranny was obviously leaking fron its front seal, thus causing the trouble, me thinks......my 2 cents worth anyways.......
