Solvang

Post by datsun65 »

I'll be heading down on Friday morning...

For me...Driving down on Saturday at 4AM just ain't fun.. Half the fun of going to Solvang is enjoying the nice weather on the drive to/from Solvang.

Also, Paul Gabriel may be setting up a round of golf on Friday, as well.

I;ll be staying at the Motel6 and will be headed home after breakfast on Sunday.

Anyone coming from the Sacramento area and heading South? I know we would need to cut across somewhere along the way from I5 to Highway 1.

I-5 to Hiway 1 cut over

Post by FergO2k »

one option is Kettleman City to Atascadero.
this will have you catching the most boring roads in California, on I-5 (including the cattle feed lot in Coalinga----phewy!)

farther north is approx the same distance and you catch more scenic (and cooler temp) roads of 101/Hiway 1. the other cut-overs are.... from memory, at Gilroy/Los Banos and some others that Badroc folks can confirm.

From Vegas? Ok, take 10 to barstow, then 58 through Bakersfield, pick up 46 to Paso Robles, and 101 south for about an hour and a half.

Easy, fast, runs past Edwards AFB, sometimes cool stuff can be seen flying out of there.

What is the MSA in L.A.? That is kinda on the way home. It would ne a good excuse to stop by pinkies for a chili dog.

On Sunday April 30th in Orange, there is a huge z-car show Motor Sports Auto (MSA) hosts the show

http://www.zcarparts.com/shows.htm

"oin us for the 2006 West Coast Nationals Peoples Choice Z Car Show on Sunday April 30th! If you have not been in the past you owe it to yourself to attend. If you have, then you know where you want to be on the weekend of April 30th! The Z Car Nationals is open to all Z’s from 1970 240’s to 2006 350’s. We'll have a little bit of everything on display, from classic stock cars, to race cars, to incredibly modified super-Z's. The People’s Choice Awards will be given in all the different Z car classes: for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. We will also have specialty awards for categories such as Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Interior, and the coveted Best of Show trophy. And as if all the awesome Z cars on display were not enough, we will also a have a huge vendor area (where you can check out the latest Z stuff, and ask technical questions directly to the manufacturers themselves, see the growing list below), great food & music, specials in the Motorsport showroom, and hourly Z raffle prizes. So bring your Z and participate in the largest Z Car Show in the world! Even if you don’t consider your car “show quality, we always have hundreds of interesting daily drivers as well as project cars. In addition, joining the actual show means you can park on the street with all the other Z cars, and be in the middle of the action, where you can trade ideas and stories about your car, and ask other Z enthusiasts what they think of your project ideas! We strongly urge you to register ahead of time this year, so we can make sure we have enough space to stage everybody! All others are strongly encouraged to come down as a spectator (just viewing the largest gathering of Z cars and Z car enthusiasts on earth is still FREE). Bring your camera and camcorder, and we look forward to seeing you at the show!"

That looks like fun. I think I could take a couple of wrong turns and "accidentally" find the show on the way home from Solvang :D . I think Ill try it. after all if I was able to talk her into going to a roadster get together and stay in a motel 6 for our anniversary, I could pull this off too. Right?

I'll be driving up saturday morning meeting with datsundude (not driving his roadster). I'm probably leaving south orange county at 7:30 and meeting datsundude about 8:30, and getting to solvang just after 10am. And I'm definitely hitting the MSA on the way home sunday.
