Spacers to run Modern Wheels

Post by mschel »

Hi, I am looking at some more modern style rims and was considering using some wheel spacers to compensate for the different offset.

I would assume I need lug centric on the hub side and hub centric on the adapted wheel side?

Looking at 16x7 wheels and somewhere in the 1-1.5 offset thickness.

These would be the style below:

The quarter panels are pretty bad in rear so I might do some small flares for now.

These are pretty close and have a large center bore but looks like wheel end is lug centric. Hoping the spacers also would put a modern wheel out enough to make them fit with a smaller bore wheel.

Anyone found a good brand/set of adapters out there? Not sure if going with 114.3 108 or maybe even 5x114.3 since its a common oem size.

I have done similar on my V8 Falcon and used 2005 mustang wheels on it. I can't remember if I had to use hub centric rings on the spacers.

Thanks.

Search the posts... I do recall a fairly recent discussion on spacers, suggestions for brands, and pros/cons.

Those 1" spacer would put the stock wheels into the fenders
Also it gives the road stronger actions on- is tougher on the suspension ,steering

The only way to use that thickness spacer would be to use ‘modern’ FWD offset wheels.

This would be to run modern offset wheels so it would probably be 1-1.5 inches. Will search for the mentioned other thread as well. Thanks.

THESE ARE HUB CENTRIC SPACERS
https://www.amazon.com/ECCPP-centric-4x ... 13d670b6bc
YOU WOULD STILL; NEED TO HAVE A MACHINE SHOP CUT THE HUB SIDE TO 76MM TO HUB CENTRIC FOR YOUR DATSUN.

NORMAL OFFSET FOR 16X7 WHEELS IS 12-18 MM ADDING 25 FOR THE SPACER YOU WOULD BE LOOKING FOR 37-43 MM OFF SET ON YOUR RIMS +/-

It looks like the 83mm ones I saw in first posting might fit with these 3d printed hubcentric rings at least for fitment. Trying to find some 1" - 1.25 ones that might be a better fit with a modern offset wheel.

Link to 3d printed rings:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:40516

I have petg which is good to about 500 degrees but eventually should have a carbon fiber/nylon capable printer after some upgrades.

Whats cool about the scad/parametric files is you can make custom sizes quickly for prototyping.

Now I need to find some actual 4x114.3 modern offset wheels to test with. Looking around on fb marketplace.

And I'd be surprised if a shop was stupid enough to do that ....possible lawsuit $$$$$$$
You know re-engineering. with out any engineering degree
A aircraft I built has a folding wing option. Needs to have a part lathed out of 1 piece of T6061 , there were 4 or 5 shops here that do custom parts , I went in person to see if they'd do it ...it was No , oh heck No , ...I'll have to ask the owner ...the last one said OK, but needed to see the plans that showed the device explained and the engineers license ,it was on the drawings

Quick update. I need to get the car on the ground to check for any unexpected issues but so far these clear the hubs and I used a set of 16x7 38 modern wheels. The wheels spin fine and seated ok. I got a 1/4 spacer just in case I find any more issues but so far it looks ok without.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008K ... =UTF8&th=1

I had to get 12.5mm lugs for the wheel side and some stock lugs for the adapter to car side.

Low profile to mount wheel to adapter.

Stock lugs:
Dorman (611-014.1) 3/4" Hex and 9/16" Long Wheel Nut

When I get it on the ground will post some pics.

Will hopefully get back on ground this month. Lots of engine swap work to do first.

You probably know better than I do but I thought I had read we have 73 bore. I am pretty sure the spacers are sitting flush.

Maybe they say 73mm in the listing but are actually a bit larger perhaps? Will measure when I have them off again. thanks for the info.

The ring is 76mm, that i am sure. The spacer might have a bevel that allows it to fit "flush" is a non hub concentric configuration.
when you remove the spacer, look at the inside ring for scrapes. You may have damaged the 76 mm lip by forcing on a 73 mm space. the hub can be safely machined to 73 mm.
