67.5 1600 from Atascadero, CA
Hello! Great to be here. I own a 67.5 1600 that is currently in need of an engine rebuild. I am also interested in putting in a 5spd as well. Any recommendations as to who works on these near the Central Coast? Any help would be appreciated. Again, glad I found this forum…

Welcome! Lots of good help here.
I can’t help you with the engine work recommendations but there are others here who can address that.
I installed a 5-speed on my 67.5 SPL recently. You will need:
Transmission
SRL engine to transmission plate or a second SPL plate
SRL clutch throw out bearing sleeve
SRL transmission rear mount
SRL rear crossmember
SRL 2-piece driveshaft
67.5 SRL console shifter trim piece
Some folks say that the clutch throw out arm needs to be updated also, but I’m using a SPL arm & so far it’s working fine. I needed to grind it to clear a bolt head. Check the tech wiki.
The shifter hole in the 67.5 body is oversized so it will work with both 4 & 5 speed shifters. I didn’t like the extra open space through the body where water & trash could be kicked up onto the carpet. I reduced the size of the hole in the body to match the hole in the trim plate & mounted the rubber shifter boot to the body.
Peace, Pat
