4-speed vs. 5-speed shifter reach?

Quick-Small-Stupid question. I know the 4-speed and 5-speed shifter plates and the position of the shifter is different between the two models, the 5-speed being more forward. I believe they both used the same 9.25" shifter rod. So when driving a 4-speed vs. 5-speed car is there actually a difference in the "reach" to the shift knob? The reason I ask is because I have a 510 shift rod that was included with my 5-speed transmission and it has an angle backward and it is slightly longer. Has anyone used one that is swept back vs. straight? Thanks. Jeff

This is a tough one, as it really depends on physical size / physique.
I have driven a 1600 Only 2-3 times, but find the reach on the 2L just right.
But, I am 6’3”, and have the inseam length of those 5’10”, so while I have the seat completely back, the shifter falls right at right knee, with elbow on the console.
(Note: I did lotsa canyon carving drives with no console, and found I was WAY more solidly planted with it back in, gave me something to lean on in sweeping left handlers.... center console upholstered with a pair of women’s leather pants from Goodwill, but that is a story for another time)

All things being stock (steering wheel and seats), like Ferg mentions it comes down to personal preference. I wouldn't use the swept shift rod as it would place the shift knob even further back then the 4-speed location.

Thank you Ferg and Alvin for the responses, that helps answer my question. I knew there was a slight difference but it does not appear to be significant given all the other variables. I ended up ordering a "straight" medium-length shifter rod. Jeff
