66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
Hi All,
I need to make room for a paint job, so I will be purging some duplicate parts.
I have extra early toggle switches and flat dash switch plates.
I'm hoping to make at least one complete assembly from my switches and plates, but I don't know which (if any) of the switches are interchangeable between 66, 67, and 67.5.
I assume there is at least some crossover. Are the Light, Fog, and Heater switches the same on all 3 models?
Is the Wiper toggle switch unique?
I know a 67.5 plate. I believe 66 and 67 plates are the same?
But, I don't know what switches (Type 1, 2, 3, etc.) go to what function (Light, Fog, Wiper, Heater).
I know someone recently posted what the Type 1, 2, 3, etc. switch usages are, but that thread (Classifieds Wanted) has disappeared, and I didn’t make notes.
I looked in the Tech Wiki, but couldn't find anything, so I'm hoping someone can clarify this.
Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

Re: 66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
This is a start:
66,67 plates and switches are the same with 4 chrome switches. 67.5 plate has three switches and all 3 are satin finish/satin nuts.
fog light only has two spade terminals.

Thanks Jim, the two-spade fact should help.
I wish I remember who it was that knew about the switches... argh.

Re: 66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
No, the above is incorrect. The 67.5 switches are matte silver finish with black plastic toggles so they are not the same as 66-67.
66-67 are bright polished chrome with black plastic toggles.
Electrically the switches are the same, visually they are not.

Here is the layout for the 66-67 switches. 67.5 has a pull switch for wipers.

Re: 66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
So, to clarify, the only visual difference is the finish of the bezels, but the switches that the bezels thread onto to are identical, correct?
I have different sets of finished bezels, and the differences are obvious, but I can't see any obvious difference between switches.
Curtis! Amazing as always, thank you very much.Curtis wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 5:48 pm Here is the layout for the 66-67 switches. 67.5 has a pull switch for wipers.

Re: 66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
The 67.5 switch nose is satin finish too to match the nut. I can post a photo if necessary. Obviously it only matters if you are trying to make a 100%correct 67.5 or a 67 2000.
Otherwise the switches are interchangeable 65/66/67/67.5 (other than the 67.5 wiper switch of course). Hope this helps!
Naturally, we have a lot of these switches on hand!
10,000's of used part in addition to all the new and NOS.
Cheers

They are not satin, they are anti dazzle as the parts book refers to them. Who comes up with that?

Great examples, thanks Alvin!
Ha! Yes, I've noticed that, have used it, and will commit to being better.
I've also seen it referred to as "anti-glare" in a 65-72 Datsun Pickup Parts Manual.
Thanks all.

I just noticed that in my first 67.5 image, the left most toggle switch appears to have a chrome "ball" while the others are satin

I saw that, too... but it's a good illustration side-by-side.
Thanks again,

Re: 66 vs 67 vs 67.5 Toggle Switches Crossover / Differences?
Well, I just graduated from my crash course in 66-67 vs. 67.5 toggle switches, and since I didn’t see anything in the Tech Wiki, I thought I’d summarize everything I learned in one place.
Thanks to Jim Tyler, Curtis Marsden, Mike Hudson, and Alvin Gogineni for the info.
If Steve sees fit, this may go in the Tech Wiki, so please correct anything I’ve gotten wrong. My big question: is 65 the same as 66 and 67? Alvin indicated that they are, so assuming so... but want to confirm.
66-67 Toggle Switches:
All 66-67 toggle switches have a shiny chrome ‘nose’ and shiny chrome bezel.
There are four toggle switches: LIGHT, FOG, WIPER, HEATER
The LIGHT Switch is a 3-position switch – Down is Off. First Step (middle position) turns on the instrument panel light, the parking, tail, and license light. The Second Step (up) turns on the headlights.
The LIGHT Switch is marked “TYPE S 3” - it has four terminals, #'s 2, 4, 6, 7 (The same kind of switch is used for WIPER)
The FOG Switch is a 2-position switch. Down is Off. Up (middle) is on.
The FOG Switch is marked “TYPE S 1” - it has two terminals, #'s 6 & 7
The WIPER Switch is a 3-position switch – Down is Off. First Step (middle position) turns on the wipers Low-Speed, The Second Step (up) turns on High-Speed.
The WIPER Switch is marked “TYPE S 3” - it has four terminals, #'s 2, 4, 6, 7 (The same kind of switch is used for LIGHT)
The HEATER Switch is a 3-position switch – Down is Off. First Step (middle position) turns on Low-Heat, The Second Step (up) turns on High-Heat.
The HEATER Switch is marked “TYPE S 8” - it has three terminals, #'s 2, 4, 6
67.5 Toggle Switches:
All 67.5 toggle switches have an “anti-dazzle” ‘nose’ and “anti-dazzle” bezel.
There are three toggle switches: LIGHT, FOG, HEATER
For 67.5 cars, the WIPER operation changed to a Pull and Twist knob.
The LIGHT Switch is a 3-position switch – Down is Off. First Step (middle position) turns on the instrument panel light, the parking, tail, and license light. The Second Step (up) turns on the headlights.
The LIGHT Switch is marked “TYPE S 3” - it has four terminals, #'s 2, 4, 6, 7
The FOG Switch is a 2-position switch. Down is Off. Up (middle) is on.
The FOG Switch is marked “TYPE S 1” - it has two terminals, #'s 6 & 7
The HEATER Switch is a 3-position switch – Down is Off. First Step (middle position) turns on Low-Heat, The Second Step (up) turns on High-Heat.
The HEATER Switch is marked “TYPE S 8” - it has three terminals, #'s 2, 4, 6
The 66-67 and 67.5 “TYPE S 1”, “TYPE S 3”, “TYPE S 8” switches operate identically, the only difference being the appearance - shiny chrome vs. “anti-dazzle”.
Each toggle switch has one or more off-white spacer/washer/insulator (fiber of some sort) that goes on the backside of the switch plate. They are also used in front of the switch plate as well, between the plate and bezel. This is presumably to adjust how much the ‘nose’ of the toggle switch sticks out the front. It may also serve as an insulation thing? I don’t know.
Side note, when I bought some NOS bezels, I was given some off-white spacer/washer/insulators, AND was also given some thinner grey spacer/washer/insulators. On my assembly, I used the thin grey ones in the front of the switch plate as a washer between the plate and the bezel. I don’t recall having these when I disassembled my car, so I don’t know if they are in fact OEM. But, they do work perfectly for how I used them, so they’re nice to have.
Below are images of the fronts and backs of the various switches.

I hope this helps, and I'm sure I've missed something, so let me know and I will edit.
