headlight options

Post by johnscf »

What are folks using to upgrade your headlights? I have four no two of which are the same and am planning to just buy new. i would like to get something that is a little brighter and covers more distance. The unmatched pair i have in now are very weak.

Decided on LED, Auxbeam in Hella E code H4 lenses. Pretty much plug and play.

A number of Roadster owners have gone this route. The upgraded lense option is what I bought. I haven't installed mine, but others that have say they drop right in, no mods required.

I swapped out the two non-matching sealed beam headlights with these:

No issues; plug and play.

After trying to find what I thought I saw, I'm guessing this may be a stupid question...

I think I have seen something somewhere about a way/service to use the OEM headlight glass lenses and retrofit with LED components?

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Thanks,
Peter

Hey Pat,

I have these Toshiba lenses, which I think are OEM??? I'm wondering if I could drop some LEDs in these.

Thanks, pm

From what I’ve read, putting leds in older style reflector housing will give more light but will not be properly focused.

Thanks Shannon, I wondered about that, but then read this below on this thread.

AustinEngy wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:22 pm Most of the LED headlight manufacturers have gone to making their bulbs such that the diodes emit from the same location as the standard filaments! I noticed this when I bought some cheap-o LEDs for my motorcycle and thought it was neat that we've finally reached the point where you can upgrade the light output, power draw and lifetime without blinding everyone.
Maybe there is hope.

Thanks,

i bought the vintage car LED headlights with the upgraded lens. Here is a picture of the new LED with the old halogen. And, yes I was too lazy to clean the tree debris off the car.

I also went with the Vintage LED headlights. Easy install. No mods required. Much brighter.
