steering wheel opinions

Hello All!

Trying to decide on the "right" steering wheel. Car came with a grant wheel, that I did not like, so I replaced it with the Black Momo Monte Carlo 320mm wheel. I got it and if feels small. So I just got the Wood Momo Indy 350mm. But I don't think it looks right. Now I am thinking just get a 350 Monte Carlo. What are your guys thoughts? Always down for other options and pictures!

It's big, but suits the car. Have the Momo Monte Carlo on my '69 and agree, it looks good but it's too small...

I really like my Momo wheel. Right diameter and leather wrapped rim is comfortable thickness. Can't remember the model. Pat

Just my 4cnts: Stock wheel is easily the best choice, period correct, good mix of steel with surrounds, no large 5, 6, 7 bolt adapter required. Nice JDM vintage, purposeful, subtle. Look for a smooth leather wrap vs the 70's perforated. Complement the BRE and Sharp cars, black but similar--- holes, spokes, cool.

Agree 100% with drieseck. I bought a cheap smooth leather wrap from Amazon for my 69 wheel.
I then removed the lace from the existing perforated wrap and put the smooth wrap over the old wrap and then sewed it up with the supplied thread. It now has a thicker slightly padded feel to it that I really like. Doing the same to an earlier wheel would be even better!

I'm the weirdo who likes the stock wheels without a cover. A tight leather wrap is ok. I have the horrible lace on perforated vinyl wrap because the wheel is in need of work. I love the Empi and the Sylvia wheels, but they are incredibly difficult to find. I hear complaints from people who fit small diameter steering wheels and wide tires that they need power steering. Stockish tires and a stock diameter wheel work for me.

I'll be one to disagree about the stock wheel... too big for me. I have something very similar to the Monte Carlo posted first, perhaps the next size up as mentioned. Very comfortable, no issue turning the car with an early steering box and 205/50 15 tires. The adaptor that was made for it allowed me to put my stock Datsun horn button in place... no horn though. I didn't have a horn for many many years prior so I didn't care. However I did install a remote, wireless horn switch and mounted it on the dash after needing a horn one day... works great other than needing a battery every once in awhile. I'll see about taking a pic...

Another one that dislikes skinny Bus size wheels here. With some camber and decent quick tires I like my Grant.

When you going a bit too fast on those Italian Alps ,1k ft.drop switch backs , a smaller str. wheel won't cut it

Looks like 13.5 inches or so in diameter. Been great, very comfortable over long distances. Sorry for upside down pic... normal if selected.

Reminded me of the original but I like the 13" to make it easier for me to get in and out of the car.

I kept having issues with my horn in the steering wheel so I relocated it to a button underneath the radio. Works well and no random horn going off when turning.

I am a MASSIVE fan of the big wheel. As a "newbie" (still) the wheel felt awkward at first, but once you drive the car a bit - it just feels right. Yes, it adds complexity to getting in/out. But once you are seated, your are just enveloped in the car and that steering wheel.

I would love to figure out a way to update/replace the center cap from the big beefy piece on there now. Has anyone ever used epoxy or anything to address cracks in the original wheels? (p.s. - Is anyone in the forum experienced with Fusion 360 or any CAD software... we should find someone to model and print parts or accessories)

Howard R - What did you refinish your dash with??? It looks stunning... A project I will be diving into this upcoming winter - as my dash is very beat up, as you can see...
