Safety alert! So I just wanted to remind everyone that owns a 66 or early 67 single brake master roadster that I have created a firewall brace for these cars. I have not had near the demand for it as there was for the dual brake master and yet I seen lots of cracked firewalls on these cars. I have lots of inventory so if you have an early 1600 don’t wait until your firewall cracks. I built the first dual master firewall brace back in 1984 when I couldn’t get the soft long pedal out of my 69 2000. I was topping up the master when I asked my wife how did the pedal feel and I noticed the master cylinder was moving up when she applied the brakes. One this I have noticed about the early 1600 is the firewall is actually weaker than the dual master firewall.

You should watch the firewall of the 310, it is frightening to see
I have designed and built a pair of braces to re-enforce the mounting points for the two masters and happy to say it is very effective

I am about to start designing a 1500 firewall brace.

I remember buying one from you to see if it would fit a 1500. I finally got the M/C rebuilt, so I’ll see if it works in the next few days. I forgot all about it.

I am pretty sure that it will not work, and I will refund your money. I’m working on a 1500 brace I the next few weeks. As a 1500 owner reached out to me for a brace and I told him I had sold one to a 1500 owner but never heard back. I asked him to send me a picture of the inside of the firewall and noted that the 1600 brace would not fit.

A brace inside the cabin is not viable IMO, so I went into the engine bay: much more room and easier to work on: -

Nice work! Unfortunately the left hand version is completely different as one would expect. I think it might even be an even poorer design. The steering column is directly below the mounting point of master cylinder making the firewall even more vulnerable to flexing. Nissan has had a track record of using just enough material to get the job done and leaving it to metal fatigue to ultimately get the upper hand.

If the column is directly under the M/C, perhaps the column mounts can be utilised to mount the brace.
I make use of 2 of those fasteners as well

I highly recommend getting a firewall brace like the one that Dave is selling-- almost every early roadster we deal with has cracking in this area-- and we have had to fix some terrible repairs done by previous owners like this one:

Thanks Michael, the brace is an easy install, 15 to 30 minutes to install and does not require any bleeding or removal of the master cylinder. It comes with instructions for installation and all the necessary hardware to do the installation. The brake pedal feels significantly firmer and if you already have cracks in the firewall it keeps them from getting worse. The kit is $42.00 plus shipping.

Refinished the engine compartment and inside firewall and floors this past winter.....didn't see any cracks, but as they say, better safe than sorry! Dave, I'll buy one please! Thanks, Paul PM sent
