gas tank straps
Getting ready to put the tank back in place and wondering what people are using between the straps and the tank. I’d like to use some type of rubber strip and wondered if someone has used something that fits nicely and is easy to put in place.

Re: gas tank straps
Another member recommended to me these and had used them successfully. I bought them for my parts stash but haven't used them yet.

Re: gas tank straps
Dennis, what are those made of? Width-wise, will they need to be trimmed?

Re: gas tank straps
I was the one who recommended those. They are made of a weatherproof, fiber like paper (kind of like a thick Tyvek home wrap). They do need to be trimmed slightly, but it is easily done with a sharp razor blade. Mine still look new years later.DAC21 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 7:31 pmAnother member recommended to me these and had used them successfully. There are strips of original horse hair material on the top of the tank that need replacing if you drop the tank. Did you use the same tank strap material for this or something else?
Thanks

Re: gas tank straps
No, I used the same closed cell foam that was recommended for the frame pads, somewhere on this site.DAC21 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 6:09 amDevo, devo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 5:48 amI was the one who recommended those. Re: gas tank straps
Great, I believe that would be EVA foam.devo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 6:15 amNo, I used the same closed cell foam that was recommended for the frame pads, somewhere on this site.

Re: gas tank straps
FYI
One issue of tank mounting is that the front of the straps are bolted to the frame while the rear is bolted to the body.
Frequently, this will cause a crack to appear in the trunk floor..
Suggesttion - relocate rear j-hooks to freshly drilled holes in the frame or investigate Spriso mod.
