Hello from Monterey, CA

Hey all

I just bought a 69 roadster 1600. It's my first vintage car and the first one I can really call a project car even if it does run and drive somewhat. I had a 2016 fiesta st that I began working on before selling it to get this car and a Suzuki cappuccino which is another fun little car but from the 90s.

As this is my first build I have all the ambition and almost none of the expertise so I will definitely be looking through these forums fairly regularly though I won't be doing any of my major plans for the car until I get it mechanically sound.

Thanks for all the future advice.

Respectfully,
Forrest

Forrest,

Welcome to a wonderful bad habit! Having lived on the Peninsula , you are going to have access to Hwy 68 and Hwy 1 routs that are going to be eppic driving adventures.

Breakfast at the Big Sur River Inn, just a start!

David

Welcome Forrest and congrats on your purchase and beginning the restoration of your first “project”. Lots of people here who will be happy to provide some sage knowledge to help you along the way if you need it.

BTW: What’s the serial number of your car? Reason I ask is that the absence of side marker lights (and probably only one license plate light vs. two) would make it a ‘68 model. It’s not uncommon to see these car titled as a different year than they were actually made, but, usually they would have updated the year-to-year changes as well (ie. adding marker light to a ‘69 titled Datsun roadster).

There are some small differences between these years which are critical when ordering parts … Your serial number (VIN number) will tell the tale.

Oh you're right! The number is SPL31121309 which seems to be a 68. Huh. Well apparently I'm the owner of a 68 rather than a 69, which tbh is only slightly disappointing haha.

Forrest,
I just sold the 68 -1600 to a guy name Hector who lives in Monterey, CA.
Perhaps I can have him look you up to give a little inspiration.

Oh nice! That'd be awesome, I was involved a bit with my Ford car group so I'd love to find some other Datsun people in this area too. I joined a group or two on Facebook but they're not as regional as my last group was.

Welcome! Give it a good polish and make it a safe driver before you plan anything!

Definitely, taking it to the mechanic on Tuesday to make sure it's all mechanically safe and sound and trying to figure out a washing plan since I technically can't wash it in my yard and it's a convertible so automatic places are a no go

Welcome,
There are quite a few owners in the San Jose/Bay Area. Let us know when you are ready to roll!
There was a local drive with Breakfast Club Rally starting in Carmel today:

Be sure to register for the 9/24 All-Japanese vintage rally, there will be a ton of roadsters!
