240 sx engine swap into my 68 Roadster
Hey guys, I'm having an issue with the engine I chose to install in my '68 Fairlady that came orginally with the 2.0L overhead cam engine.
I have a sweet 2.4L engine and trans out of a 1998 Nissan 240 SX and I have a problem with the oil pan...
The engine as it sits will NOT fit in the frame, the oil pan is a front sump and there is no way short of reinventing the cross member or finding and oil pan that will fit this engine with a rear sump.
I can if it comes to it, cut and fit the oil pan that is there and then make a tube to move the oil pick up to the rear sump, BUT, I would sure like to know if there is a simpler way of doing this, i.e. swapping oil pans with some other engine....
Any one out there that knows what I have on my plate that can tell me what oil pan will will fit and take the fabrication mess off of my plate!
Thank you in advance to anyone of you who can advise this old guy on what to do other than all of the fab work that it would take to do the current oil pan cut and fit mess!

Re: 240 sx engine swap into my 68 Roadster
I believe you will cut off the little side extension of the oil pan and replace that with a flat plate. With that gone and the engine sitting far enough to the rear it will clear the front crossmember without issue. If you use the 240 trans, modification is required to the rear X of the frame. As I recall, the KAe pan won't fit, so that doesn't help.
You can just remove the pan for now and proceed with the fitment. Then install the modified pan.
The engine needs to sit at the same angle (or close) as it did in the 240, so that the gearshift is vertical and oil drains back to the sump as intended.

Adding to JT's post...this is Dan 's( datsun65) '66 SPL with a KA24DE. You can see (just barely) the oil pan modified as described by JT:

As mentioned above, a quick search brings up a bunch of threads with info and photos of KA24(DE) installations

Re: 240 sx engine swap into my 68 Roadster
I will pull the pan and install the engine and see what I need to fabricate to make it work. I truly appreciate your response and your help.JT68 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 5:43 pm I believe you will cut off the little side extension of the oil pan and replace that with a flat plate. Thank you, thank you and thank you for your help. I have been trying to find my post after quite a while I just redid the post. How I stumbled onto this is beyond me, BUT, I am thrilled by the response from all of the people who've sent me information on this swap!Alvin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:18 am Adding to JT's post...this is Dan 's( datsun65) '66 SPL with a KA24DE. I'm working on putting a KA24DE into a 1500 and need to buy a radiator for it. do you have any suggestions what to get and where to get it?

Re: 240 sx engine swap into my 68 Roadster
Hello gents
I’m also doing a KA swap, albeit very slowly.
As for the oil pan; cut the nub down so it will clear the lower suspension mount. It’s what I have done. For the radiator; I went with the Champion for the SRL. I’ve heard horror stories about the eBay junk. It fits like a dream for me.
Cheers
