Help With Gas Cap Identification

I have had this gas cap for probably 35 years. It is a new, locking cap, however it appears to be unvented, and a bit different from the usual 63-69 caps. I know nothing about the '70 unvented caps, but I didn't think that Datsun made a locking cap for the '70 models (?).

The retaining tabs for this cap are about 3/4 inch from the sealing gasket compared to about 7/16 inch for a typical 63-69 cap.

Does anyone know if this will fit a '70 with a non-vented system, or is this just a nice paperweight?

I'd like a paperweight like that... :D

Looks like the caps that were on the two early 67s that I had back in the 80s...

Very interesting, Sid
Although it will 'go onto' the filler neck of a 67.5, it is really loose because of the height difference of the tabs. Is there a height difference on the filler tube neck flanges between any of the years?

No difference on height that I am aware of. The 70 (on the right in Dann's picture) has a different diameter. The locking cap won't fit in it. It could be for a different Datsun.

I never thought about it fitting a different Datsun....
Thanks!

I have a similar cap, that doesn't fit a late model roadster - I believe it fits a 521. I bought it new for $10 about 10 years ago thinking I could replace the tabs and have a locking cap to fit the roadster in the event that one of mine broke or got lost...I never spent any time to validate that thought and I still have my original roadster caps

Hi Joe... I didn't notice it at first, but the flap on PF044's cap is off center.

On your gas cap, is the flap cover offset like this one?

Does that help identify?

Thanks,
Peter

No, the flap that covers the key hole is centered.
