Forgotten - 1970 SPL311 1600
Couldn't help saving this poor, wayward roadster.
Part of a package I purchased several months ago. Car was languishing behind a bodyshop under pile of parts.
Shop cleared out the trash, aired up the tires and away it goes.
Under cover for now. Need to wire in a new ignition switch & install a battery. Car actually looks fairly complete. Will try to crank the engine over during the winter holidays.
Don't know the long term plans on this one, yet. Haven't owned a high windshield roadster for quite a long time

Hey Dan
This is the first Roadster I have seen with the same wheels that came with my car. Do you know much about them?

Thanks for making the effort to try to save this Car! Even in rough shape, they still look way cool sitting on the transport.

Ralph: Not sure what rims are on the car, but I've seen the style before. Need to do a bit of sleuthing.
Did a little excavation on the 1600 today. Found the registration and paperwork in the glovebox!
Vehicle was previously from Florida and had work done to it by Bill Harvey back in 2007. The keys were stuck in the ignition, and I found the whole steering column was disconnected. So I pulled the steering column (Steering wheel & All) and will atempt to extract the key.

Seafoam Deep Creep did wonders for my original locking gas cap. The key had been in that cap for 40 years, granted it was a garaged car, yet still. I couldn't budge the key and had to bend one of the tabs to get the cap off. Literally 5 minutes of soak to get the key out and another shot of penetrant in the key slot and it now works like butter.datsun65 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 6:27 pm Ralph: Not sure what rims are on the car, but I've seen the style before. The wheels on your new roadster are American Racing Spectre 2's. Had a set on my first 510...

Re: Forgotten - 1970 SPL311 1600
Had a little time to work on the roadster today.
Installed a replacement ignition switch (just the switch), as the steering wheel/column is currently out of the car.
Did a quick check on fluids, hooked up fuel pump to a external tank, threw in a fresh battery and grabbed a fire extingiusher.
And...She cranked okay, but no spark.
The car has a weird voltage regulator setup made by Motorola. Very slim and appears to be bypassing the original wiring.
Next steps are to check coil and Points.

Small World.
In the glove box of the car, I found an old faded receipt that the car had been serviced by Bill Harvey (Datsun Roadster Racer), way back in 2007. Spoke with Bill last week and he remembered the car & provided a little bit of the service details.
On the receipt was the name of a Previous Owner, but it was a fairly common name.
Yesterday was checking out facebook and saw a post in a 240Z group. The post was from the same name as had owned the roadster.
We connected, and sure enough it was the previous owner! Excited to be finding out more history & background on this old project.

Re: Forgotten - 1970 SPL311 1600
Bit of progress today on the 1600. Picked up a fresh coil and ignition parts. Bypassed a poor connection (+) and she started up, albeit for only a few seconds.
Next up a round of fresh electrical connections and new fuel hose throughout the engine bay.

First start today, thanks to Mike.
Cleaned up a few connections. Hooked up an electric fuel pump to a gas can. New plugs fuel hose and coil. Started up and idled nicely.

Couldn't believe how well it idled. No adjustment, no crazy smoke. Just started and ran.
