Felt-like material between body and frame

Post by TucsonJim »

When I took the body off the frame on a 1967 1/5 Datsun 1600, there was a pad that appeared to be something like course felt glued to the top of the frame. I assume it was for vibration dampening / noise control. Does anyone know what this material is? When doing a frame off restoration, what, if anything, do people use as a replacement?
Thanks.

Commonly referred to horse hair pads, very prone to rust under these. I used 3/8" closed cell foam yoga mat material. Pat

3/8" seem OK at the frame. What do you suggest between the fender and the chassis?

Closed cell yoga mats do come thinner, 1/4” or so. Or find similar material used for tool box drawers, about 1/8” thick. Pat
