Do I have original stock wheels on my car?

Post by alpca3877 »

I’ve read hundreds of posts in this wheels section but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. Bought my 68 1600 6 weeks ago and got it back from the shop after fixing a number of issues. Time to move on to wheels and tires since these are dry rotting. However, before I get tires, I’m trying to determine if I have “proper” wheels on the car. It’s clear from reading this forum that there are thousands of possible combinations, but I’m just trying to start with what my car would have had upon delivery. I’m running 185 75r14s on a 14x5 wheel (if I’m reading this code right).

Radial tires were not supplied as original Equipment. The tires you are an good replacement for the OE tires.

I would need to see a picture of the hub cap clips to see if you have the stock steel wheels.

This is a 14x4.5 wheel , which indicates the right size for a roadster
As Phil said if it has the clips on the front it will be a roadster wheel, if not present then this is an early 240Z wheel

What year is your car?

I’ve been told earlier cars had 4” wheels and later cars had 4.5” wheels.

If you are really intent on keeping it as original as possible you might want to consider tires like these. This is the original sized tire which is over an inch narrower In tread width than a 185/70/14.

Unless I am misreading, the date code is 5-68, so likely original to the car.
