LGGPR 2020

LGGPR. Org 2020 registration now open.

Bummed about Solvang being cancelled? Too hot for Mt. Shasta or Shedd’s? California to far to drive? Or maybe your tired of looking at a bunch of parked cars and would like to attend an event that lets you not only drive your car but allows you to push your car on a closed course without fear of contact.
Well then Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival (Oct 9,10 & 11) is for you! Drive around an old city park race track at speeds up to 100mph ( choose from groups that allow max speed of 60, 80, or.100 mph) with passing allowed only on the straights. Run your car in an Autocross event and attend a downtown car show all at the same event. See sports and GT cars from the 40’s to the 2020’s. As a bonus Datsun/Nissan Z cars are the featured Marque this year!
Located in Garnett Kansas which is about 60 miles SW of Kansas City this is a great location for those of us who live in mid America. This is the perfect venue for an annual Roadster get together for those who don’t live near either coast. Last year there were 3 roadsters attending, let’s get 10 there this year! If we can show the organizer’s that we can assemble a reasonable sized car count we could be the featured group one year!
So let’s mark our calendars for Oct 9, 10, and 11th. and have some fun DRIVING our cars and meeting each other. You really only need to be there on Saturday or Sunday depending on what events you’re interested in (Sat. Is autocross and car show plus spectating the vintage race cars on track plus the Z’s on track while a Sunday is the day you will be able to drive your car on the track).

Michael,
Promote this every 3 weeks til October to alert those who seldom check in. Pics are a great way to do it.
Seems like a neat show and perfect for a midwest gathering.
Now if the east coast can get something going in addition to Watkins Glen.

Shows to be about 8 hours from me, way closer than California. I’m in keep us all posted. How far from Tulsa, Mike?

About 3 hours Keith. I’ll be going up on a Friday but if you or anyone else would like to layover in Tulsa on Thursday I have a separate mother in law apartment that could be utilized. It has a large living room and a separate bed room along with a bath and a half, so if someone wanted to sleep on the couch two could have privacy.

I should of mentioned that Garnett is a very small town with only two equally small motels which will fill up fast. Last year I stayed in a town about twenty miles away and it wasn’t a bad drive.

About the same to any of the west coast events for us in middle America, which is why we need something centrally located :D

I'm seriously considering going to this with one of my cars. It's not quite as far as Solvang for me.

Are roadsters allowed in the datsun/nissan "Z" class?

Shannon you should definitely do it, it’s great fun. Don’t think we could run with t Z’s during their special times, but they will also be on the track when we run in our chosen speed group. You can run in more than one speed group if you want more track time. It just costs more and you may not get any time off between runs if you run the 60 and 80, or the 80 and 100mph group. If you ran 60 mph and 100mph you would get about 30 minutes between runs, however the 100 mph cars are going to expect you to be fast and you might slow them down. Or not! Remember each speed group gets two sessions, one on Sunday morning and one on Sunday afternoon. Don’t forget that you can also autocross on Saturday. If we have a good turnout and can get enough commitments, we could be the featured car in the near future and all the free T shirts for that year would have roadsters on them :D
Looks like a 12 hour trip for you so a long one, but doable. Coming through Tulsa would add about 30 minutes, but if you got here on Thursday I could put you up, both coming and going, and make the trip a little easier without adding any extra expense.
The two little motels in Garnett will fill up quickly, so reservations should be made soon. As I mentioned earlier, I stayed about 20 miles from Garnett last year and it took less then 30 min.to get there.
Let’s see if we can get more roadster’s than Z’s and make an impression!!

PS. The vintage race group gets to charge a lot harder, although still not allowed all out racing, but pretty damn close

Mike:

Thank you for your kind offer. I'll PM you.

I think I would participate in the 80mph runs and autocross.

It will be a blast.

I hope to come with my brother and one other roadster owner. I need to get the 66 completed and my brother will bring my '72 240Z. I emailed the folks whom showed interest in our Midwest Roadster Club and out of 20 folks only one responded. Pretty typical though. I used to schedule monthly runs/cookouts in the North-bay when we lived in Rohnert Park. We always had 10 or so die-hards that would make it. It is harder to get people together these days with the pandemic and all of the changes. Hopefully this event will not get cancelled.

Steve: I'm registered and plan to attend but haven't received any emails. I would like to know what car number I'm assigned so I can order my magnetic door placards.
