1UZFE with CD009...Im crazy!

Post by AltxF4 »

I think I have finally settled on a lexus/Toyota 1UZFE V8 mated up to a Nissan CD009. There is a kit to cut off the CD009 bell housing, and use the 1UZ automatic bell housing without adding length.

About the only easy thing other than price and availability with this swap that will be easy is that the starter is in the valley, and takes up no bell housing real estate! The 1UZ automatic bell housing is also a little smaller than the CD009 bell housing.

The front cross member and steering will be a fun engineering task

Yes, from a Lexus.
I would have to do an aftermarket kit like I plan for a manual... No OEM manual trans. I like the CD009 since it has been done with this engine, and it is also a lot smoother (car like) than the Toyota W58 or R-154.

From the end of the crank pulley to the bell housing flange, it is shorter than the SR20 (by 2"). About the same height from bottom of oil pan top of valve covers/t-stat housing(1UZ)... aftermarket 1UZ ITBS sit decently low.

I’m always down for crazy things! Why this engine over a VQ? With that trans it seems like a no brainer! All though after all the work I’m doing to beef everything up, I almost wish I would have just gone V8 lol

Thought of something
The traction control is tied into the FI control unit , on wheel spin it detunes the fuel & timing some , so with out a traction C it's going to set a code and be in fail safe mode
90 ? May not have TC

The 1UZFE has been swapped into many old-school Japanese cars...very popular.

Here's a Miata with one backed by a Z32 trans:

Very cool looking engine, but 250-300 HP? Sleeved and Stroked SR would be my choice.

They are great engines. They handle boost as well! Here is local S30 with turbo'd 1UZFE:

Yes they are. a 400 GS auto F spt.TC off Can get away from you if your punch it . its a 3400- 3800 lb. Car

Take 1200 -1600 lbs away ...stick. No power steering , brakes
It would be easy to spin at speed
It's makes the car un-saleable though. or unwise to do so

I think this is going to be fun! Once I get a block for mock up, we will see what direction this takes. Either ITBS with Holley or MS ECU, or two small turbskies K03 or the likes. With the Holly ECU, I know I can implement TC with the use of wheel speed sensors. Rear end will probably be an 8" with Torsen LSD.

It will be several months before I can get the engine and trans.
