Black paint code

Post by ed B »

My car was originally Silver and I can see it was then orange. Currently it is black. I'm not sure if they used the original paint color or not. I just found out there are many black paints to choose from out there. Silly me, this was the one color that I thought there would be only one choice.

I looked in the Tech Wiki for an original Black paint code and did not find one. So I searched the discussions and found a reference to Thunder Black, number 505. However number 505 in the Tech Wiki is Light Gray. Not sure if there is a PPG code for the original black, or a black that most folks use. Is there any one out there who can shed some light on this for me?

Ok Thanks Joe!

Someday you'll have to let me know how you found that. This is the one I found on tech wiki:

If you want the "blackest" black (if that makes sense) use Toyota paint code 202. It cross references to many Toyota cars/years.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

Yes, even black varies. I wish I had known that as well, as I would have gone with the blackest black I could find. Car must be straight though, and it's amazingly difficult to do it right EVERYWHERE, but soooo rewarding when it is. I didn't get there... one more try some day.
