Reproduction FAIRLADY emblems. Feedback needed.

Post by ted heaton »

Reproduction FAIRLADY emblems On Ebay. They look good.
Has anyone bought one?
How is the quality?
Seller says the studs are threaded and welded to the emblem.
Does the emblem fit flat against the metal with such studs?
Thanks,
Ted.

The Fairlady script (your example) is for the rear panel, the one Ted is referencing is for the front fender and was found on the 1500's and RH drive Roadsters, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm looking at my original and the letters look more open on the reproduction. And while we're at it what is this other emblem for?

I was wondering if it came from an SSS 1600 sedan I parted in the 70's.

In the early days, some Datsun dealers refused to sell the 1500 as the FairLady. They took the FairLady emblem off and put the Datsun emblem on.

I just looked at my originals and the dot on the i is round like the reproduction, not oblong like the other original.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

In an attempt to get this thread back on course (always interesting to see them wander away)
here is some more data on the reproduction FAIRLADY Emblems.
I contacted the seller concerning the studs. He confirmed that the emblem will lay flat on the fender.
He sent a picture showing the stud had no shoulder and it looked nicely fitted to the emblem.
Size and stud location are identical to the original
BUT the reproduction is only 2 mm thick and the original is 4+ mm.
I think that is too thin to look right, especially if you have an original to compare with.
I decided not to buy a pair.

Further info from the seller.

"The stubs are not exact location compare to the original."

Not sure how far off the studs are or if they will fit the existing fender holes.
Would advise caution about purchasing these emblems.

The other Datsun emblem is also used on 1500, I saw it a few times and I have one unrestored with them on the fenders.
