Some don't put one back in, but if you plan to...get a new shoe at least. The photo looks like that hard rubber is breaking down. Usually that piece is smooth with the two grooves...yours looks like it disintegrating and all those little pieces are going into your lubrication system. (The wear doesn't seem even either...normally the whole thing looks like the right side in your photo)

Horn button rubber spring

The horns didn't work when I got my '67. I found that the button assy. had been severely molested and that the primary problem was that the rubber spring was deteriorated beyond having any spring left so the horn was disconnected. After a few trials and errors I found that some heat shrink tubing cut into three pieces is doing the trick. I believe that it should last some time, but perhaps not so I am interested in what others have used to replace this spring.

Dean had replicas but now I don't find them. You might check and see if Ross has them.

Was replacing clutch master yesterday (SPL '70) and have THREE questions - there were 'upper' and 'lower' shims between master and firewall

1) I know what shims do, but what is the purpose of them in this application since there adjustments available in the 'plunger'?

2) Why would there be different thickness of shims between top and bottom?

3) And likely what 'methodology" would/could have been used to determine those thicknesses?

I’m converting an open 4.375 rear end from a truck to a LSD 4.375 for the Roadster. It has revealed a few surprises and I need some input from the experts. I was able to get the correct LSD to match the shorter gear so from here is it as simple as removing the open diff and replacing it with the LSD or is there more to it?


Also, are truck axles stronger than Roadster axles? Is it “easy” to convert it? The truck axles appear to be thicker so likely stronger

How does one go about removing the needle bearings from a late steering box without trashing them?

No expert; Splines on the truck axles are different/larger/wider. As are the axle splines in the side gears, to accomodate the truck axle. Axles are likely much longer too.
No expert; if you aquired only loose parts, you will need to set up lash of the ring and pinion.
Wouldn't hurt to check lash if it is a punkin assy, (assuming used).

VOLVO BRAKE CONVERSION QUESTION:

So after doing a tad research, it looks like someone upgraded my calipers to Volvo, but I need to replace one caliper. All I keep seeing is using a “Volvo 240” which doesn’t appear to exist? There’s a 242, 244, and 245. I’ve tried to match with the caliper off of the 242 and 245 with no lunch. They both appear to be wider than mine.

According to the Wiki write up, I need a Cardone PN 17-631, which I can’t find on RockAuto or Cardone’s website. I can however find 19-631.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn’t be super against replacing both calipers, the new ones are just wide than the old one.

Is there two types of interior door handle surrounds?

I bought some good condition ones a while ago and tried to install them, but couldnt....

They must be from a 67.5.
