Ya, it really is a good idea. After a long day of cutting up roads I will do a walk around, quick look under the car and hood, just to make sure things are good. In the past, I have found loosening alternator bolts, and a wire that had moved too close to the header and was starting to melt, averting problems down the road. We forget that these cars are now 50 years old, and many like mine have seen over 250,000 miles (!) Its likely that some of the front suspension parts have seen all of those miles, as I have not replaced everything up front. The Datsun is amazingly robust, but we can get complacent because we're used to modern car reliability. My Celica is much less likely to break something, but I don't drive it near as hard as the Roadster.
