Solex Carb Rebuild - Any Recommended Shops?

Post by MattGabe »

Hello Friends,
I recently picked up a set of early 44mm Phh carbs that need to be rebuilt.
With Wolf Creek Racing out of commission, I reached out to FutoFab. They are currently only selling rebuild kits, but not taking on the rebuild work.

Anyone have any good shops/people they could recommend for this type of work?
I'm in the greater north eastern US, but not opposed to shipping them as needed.

Thanks!
-Matt

Except for the shiny plated parts, why not do it yourself?

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

I don't trust myself to work with all the little parts, and I don't want to chance messing up.

Dave will do a fine job!

Are they the original early style or later type 3-4? (Late style are shown in the photo above - early style have the very small Solex jet cover). I enjoy working on the later style but don't care much for the early ones.

I have the setup shown in Alvin's photo. They have not been used or mounted on an engine. These are Type 4 carbs which are the latest that Mikuni built. They are not the ones that Nissan sold but are just as good functionally. The fuel inlets are toward the front of the carbs so the fuel connections will not interfere with the brake master cylinder on the 66-67 cars with U20 engines installed. The price is $2200.00 for this setup. Prices for similar setups with Nissan type carbs are hundreds more. Dave built these carbs and said he will assist with setup guidance. Setups with Nissan type carbs are available.

Dan Garrison out of Portland, OR builds great carbs. Look like new when you get them back and work even better. PM me for his contact info.

Hello! I actually need carbs and manifold for a 5 main 1600 and Dan has done a LOT of work for me over the past 20 years or so and I've bought a cat or two off him. I've lost his contact info and don't use any of the Facebooks or whatever. I'm not sure if he still lives in the same house, but I'd think moving all of his parts etc would be prohibitive.

If any body has a contact to him, I'd be most appreciative.

My name is Johnn(y) Steele and right now I have a 65 with the wrong motor.
