Wheels painted body color?

Post by Dave_Car_Guy »

I tried a search for this topic but find it interesting that I don't see it come up much....

I know it isn't exactly factory-standard, but how about Datsun Roadsters with steel wheels that are painted to match the body color? I've been enamored with old European roadsters from the 50's with that wheel treatment and wide whitewalls. I guess this means I am officially getting old. When I was younger, that look was for old men.

A couple member cars here have narrow whitewalls as appropriate from the Datsun factory, but how about something wider?

I know one or two here have done that. I like the look, I really like it when the hubcap centers are coordinated as on the Mercedes you show.

I agree, that Mercedes style is what I would love to see, particularly on a dark colored Datsun (blue, green, black, gray). And with a center hubcap that has a logo like the first photo, but which is painted in the areas that are now black and with chrome surround and Datsun text. The hubcap would need to be simple rounded "moon" style, but customized withe the Datsun name. And I'd have only the slotted area of the steel wheel in body color, not the complete wheel as shown in the second photo, and like the Mercedes I'd do the edge in silver or chrome.

That's how mine was done by the PO. The color isn't exact, and they did a poor job with the spray paint, but I like the look. The hubcaps hide most of it.

I painted the wheel lip red on my 1500 when i got white walls. I got the idea from a (1963?) Magazine ad for the spl310.

I kept the silver behind the wheel cover. I know its not 100% correct but i like the wide whitewall look on a 1500

I think it's the full hubcaps on the 1500 that make the wide whites work. Nice car Dan!

That's EXACTLY what I wanted to see. I love that look on your car, well done! (Narrow ones look great, too!)

Thanks!

For me, what catches my eye is when the white wall starts at the wheel edge, or really close to it...i think it looks cool. The white walls on my car are 2" i think 1" would look good too, as long as it wasn't "floating" between two black spaces. but that's just my preference!

boy oh boy . idk now either . I've been toying with the different looks also . mine right now, I think the color on the rims make it look like a spare on all four tires . idk am I wrong or is it the thin ww that do it . * oh and as far as ww go, I think the wider the better ! if I had the money to spend on each tire I would have gotten them , but I don't so I got we but the cheapest I could find .hahahah but better than no ww I think .

I just bought this car a month ago. I love the wheels but can not figure out what brand they are or where to get another. I need one for a spare and thought it would be great to have the spare match they car.
