Back when I got my roadster in August of 2012 all the photos in this thread were still visible.

This is the Previous owners post of my current roadster which I purchased from him.

I noticed the images disappeared maybe a year ago?

It had two places of photos. The restored ones up top and the unrestored ones further down.

Now it just says image. What makes it do that?

I think I still have copies somewhere but I was wondering what happens that they disappear and are they recoverable?

That is what happens when folks use an external photo site to host their pictures. When the host goes away so do the pictures and all you have left is the "Image" text. Better to put them in the Gallery here as that will be around as long as the website. I do not plan on throwing in the towel any time soon.

I think the simplest explanation is that the site where the pictures were hosted/uploaded to no longer exists.
Maybe the wayback machine could help?
But my bet is that they can't be retrieved otherwise.

If you look at my past posts and from other members who used the "Webshots" site to host/post their pictures...the pictures are gone

ok that makes sense. I though those would have shown a url link and would fail to load. these just say image.

I have copies of the images but I am not the PO so I can not edit his posts to put them back in. I guess I could repost at the bottom or edit my first post in there on page 2 or so and re-add them.

I guess I can do that.

I always just upload pictures to the post on the forum. those get locally hosted on the forum server correct?

Yes, if you upload they are local to the server hosting the forum. If you want to upload them into a new post- I will fix the original post. Thanks.

Perhaps some instructions on how to upload. All I am familiar with is the linking of photos in the editor.

Curtis, when you do a post if you want to attach images you go to the bottom and click the attachments tab (if it does not appear you have to first press the "Full Editor & Preview" tab, and then add files and select your image from a local disk on your phone or computer. You can also put them inline with your posting so you can write around the picture by having your cursor positioned where you want the image to appear. It will insert a link. The link you can cut and paste and put it where you want it if you get it in the wrong location in your doc.

The one weird think the attachments does is it puts them in reverse order of the order you attach the pictures. Kind of a pain as you have to figure out which picture you want to appear first and attach it last.

The second weird thing is sometimes the smaller image it attaches (which you can click for full view) is attached and appears upside-down but after clicking it will be right-side up until you go back to the post and it will be upside-down again. Just a preview glitch.

But all in all it seems to work.

Okay-here are some pretty easy steps to follow:

You will only see the attachments tab in Full Editor & Preview mode.

Step 1-open the editor. Towards the bottom select the Attachments tab Step 2-Select Add files-then browse to where ever your photos reside and select one at a time or you can select files and drag and drop into the message box. I always have better luck with one at a time. Step 3-Slect files and Open Step 4 -you will see the file name-select Place Inline and you can add comments as well. Step 5-This is what it looks like inline-you can adjust the placement by moving the text around Step 6-Here you can do a preview of your post before submitting. And that pretty much covers it. Any questions-just ask.

Sometimes you may be in the quick reply mode and will have to press the "Full Editor & Preview" Tab to be able to see the "Attachments" tab.

True, you will only see the attachments tab in Full Editor & Preview mode.
