Yokohama S.drives and Federal SS595 quest

Post by msampsel »

Looks like blue car http://www.311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24714 is running Yokohama S.drives. I am considering these at 185/55/14 for new tires. Wondering if there are reports of good or bad out there for these tires.

There are also some Federal tires SS595 which are the same size and a little less $$$.
And it seems RCMike liked his for 6000 miles which is more than I'll drive in 5 years.

Comments on these two tires welcome.

I have s-drives on two of my cars and like them. I would buy again but with a taller profile next time. Mine are 16".

Mind sharing why you want a taller profile?

I have 195/45R-16. I think a 50 or 55 series would fill the wheel wells better and provide a better ride (although not too bad now).

595 "SS" is not the tire I like.

It will work, but it has awful wet traction (do not hit damp striping on a road), marginal dry traction, and is loud.

the 595 "RSR" is the one I like.

Much better traction both wet and dry, quieter, and a much better look.

On the plus side for the SS, I would bet they could get 50 or 60,000 miles on a roadster.

I would lean you toward the Yokohama unless you are looking for absolute limit grip, then I would lean to the Federal 595 RSR for same price range.

I had 205/45/16 S-drives and put about 15k miles on them. No complaints.
