5 speed tranny question with SR20 swap

Post by punkzdriver »

Random question regarding the SR20DE(T) swap. When using the new 5 speed transmission, what is used for a MC? Do you use the stock Roadster MC? A 240sx MC? Something all together different?

I'd think the mc would be dependent on what brakes you're going to use, not what engine/trans.
If you're using Spriso's Z32 setup, I'd follow his recommendation (to the letter).
If using the Volvo setup there have been a few different mcs used.
Anything else and you're probably on your own but the means for determining what mc to use is pretty well documented on the net. It's basically a volume and leverage thing.
I'd determine what brake system I'm interested in running; then search until you can't think of any other terms to search for.

Yes. In regards to the clutch master cylinder.

Also, for those of you have used the Spriso jig, which hole does the shifter come through? The Roadster 4 speed of 5 speed hole?

if itsa 67.5 the hole is huge. so it wont matter.
The sr 5sp should come thru where the stock 4 speed shifter comes through on a "giraffe hauler".

Almost every Nisssan uses the same size master cylinder, so the stock one should work just fine.

As I recall, the S13/S14 240SX master cylinder has a different bolt pattern (diagonal instead of vertical bolts). For something newer that will still bolt up, you'd need one from a 280Z.

Use the stock roadster 5/8" master cylinder.

Our JIG is designed to put the shifter thru the center of the shift hole on a 1600 body-- a 2000 will have to have the hole adjusted.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask--

Michael--
Sort of on point; how 'bout a 6 speed on an SRL body with your jig? I suppose that since the tunnel will need enlarging it doesn't much matter, but I'm curious.

thx!

The 6-speed trans is 10mm longer than the 5-speed, so it is a similar fit.
