Rust Remover

Post by JohnnyMac »

I have used Evapo-rust in the past with success, but I saw the WD40 version-Rust Remover Soak- at Walmart. $25 for a gallon, then a $10 rebate. Just thought I'd pass it on. Haven't used it yet. Hate mail-in rebates, limited to one per household, and doesn't expire until 2018! so no rush.

Let us know how it works. Not a bad deal once you get the rebate in your hands.

This is a good deal, though all I can say I I love Evap-O-Rust and it's about $20 a gallon all the time.

https://www.semproducts.com/manage/html ... t-mort.pdf this stuff changes iron oxide to ferrous oxide (or something like that). A little goes a long way. Several places sell it... including Amazon!

Re: Rust Remover : Molasses

Post by zetec311 »

I tried the molasses mixture.. like a 10:1 dilution in water. Soak parts for a week.. steel parts came out great! a rusted c-clamp was usable again. although some parts that weren’t steel disolved away into a pitted mess (the binding posts on brake pads from a bicycle)

you have to use unsulfered molasses, same cleaning action that makes evaporust work.. chelating. Warning though.. the liquid is a stinky one after a week.

I like the SEM Rust Mort too. I used maybe a pint on my roadster, after removing all of the paint. It cost more but you are accomplishing two things at once: removing a lot of the rust and any that is left down in microscopic pits is converted to inert iron phosphate. Iron phosphate is what the black fasteners are plated with.
