Wheels for a datsun roadster 1600 from 1969

Post by jayd »

Morning to everybody,
I'm french so excuse IN advance my poor english that explained maybe that i didn't found thé answer I'm looking for.
I will ask a simple question about a car that i just bought IN usa and will arrive IN FRANCE IN one month or a little more.
The car is for the Time being fixed with Its original wheels.
I will keep them preciously and would like to change them for some rota "gun metal" or pana sport.
Afaik, the fitment should be :
15x6 with an offset of 20 at the front
15x7 with an offset of 20 at the rear.

Is that correct?

Or do i take a Risk that the tyres will rub?

After the size of the wheels Will come the question about the tyres.

If you Have some opinions about the tyres, you are welcome too.

I Will use this car as a we car.

This car wasn't imported IN france and rota's aren't so much sold...

So i can not buy wheels without being sure about the fitment.

I'm awaiting for your answers.

And I'm waiting too my car with a terrific impatience!

Regards

Jerome

If fit without some adjustment to the body is very important go with the 15x6 both front and rear.

15x7 plus 20 will fit most cars on the rear, all with a slight adjustment.

Tires, don't go larger than 15x195 unless adjusting the fenders is OK

Are you sure they were never imported to France? The parts manual has a special Solex air filter canister listed as France Only.

Congratulations on acquisition - what Phil said re wheels/tires
1) Don't forget to register the car on the registry.
2) You english is way much better than most americans - don't worry
3) Realizing that Belgium is somewhat in the way - there are a TON of roadsters in the Netherlands.

many thnaks for your answers !
so i think i'm going to buy 15x6 with an offset of 20 both front and rear.
About tire, what is the height you recommend ? 195x50x15 ?
Under 50, i think it's way too tight. I've got already two tvr's ; an old one (2500M) and a more recent, a cerbera, which has 45 i think at the rear and it's really hard ; usefull on a car like this that is really powerfull.

So Jerome,
Bonjour :)
When you get your tires (tyres) on your car, please take a few pictures of your car for us.......Eiffel Tower, Cote d'Azur, Avignon Bridge, lots of possibilities!

As far a overall aspect ratio depends on look, how it fills the area. In 195x15, 45s limit the brands and are too small in my opinion. I have 50s and they are still on the short side . 55s are just about the same height as the original size.....60s can fit.

A lot depends on the ride height....Lowered, sagged, stock or raised.

Many tire dealers in the states will mount up tires to test.

I always wanted a TVR.

This thread has many many pictures....LOL....too many

Welcome Jays! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your car. Alvin is sort of the photo historian of the forum. If you want a specific picture of something (such as a particular wheel on a roadster) he likely has it. If you have issues once your car arrives, ask away! If you find one of the French market only Solex aircleaners, I want it!!

About the importation in France of the Roadster, i'm not sure that the car wasn't imported.
I just know after some discussions with the Datsun France Club that there are less than 10 Roadster in France. That there are no parts suppliers in France.
I will explore the Belgium source as i've got quite some friends other there... Netherlands, more difficult for me but i will check too.
For the solex carburator, some websites i found hoping they can answer (the second one seems to have a large stock of parts) :

One thought about Solex : are these carburators not the same than Weber or nearly the same ?

They are similar to Weber carbs. Are there any OLD Nissan dealerships that you are aware of? They may have some old stock lying around.

I don't know Nissan dealership at all. But maybe you can post a picture of the part you are searching and i will ask to my garagist who knows (and his father maybe more cause he was garagist too) maybe where to find these kind of parts. I will try with pleasure.
