There is a new version of the forum software available. I will be doing the update when time permits. While doing the update the forum will be unavailable. Need to keep the install current. Thanks.

There is a new release of the software which is not compatible with what we are using right now. I am going to go ahead this Sunday with the upgrade beginning around 10 AM CST and hope to be done by 4 PM if everything goes well. Things will look a little different but we will not lose any threads or content. The wiki will not be affected by this. Wish me luck. Thanks.

Hmmm, 6 hours of grueling, stressful programming work just so we can have a great experience here.
Time to pay the piper- let's see, ahh there, at the bottom of the page, THERE'S that PayPal Donate now button........
Look how EASY it is for each of us to compensate Steve for all that he does for us. (Hint, Hint to all you out there reading this :-) )

If this is the same upgrade as the other forum I used to visit, good luck. It totally hosed the site. Made it really user unfriendly.

Once again good luck, I hope it all goes well. I'll have withdrawal if something goes wrong.

Good luck and remember, if you have trouble, use a bigger hammer.

We owe a lot to Steve for this site. Probably the friendliest auto forum on the net. Everything changes though. Good luck with the upgrade.

Well Said

Steve shared a few of the changes with notoptoy and myself.
It is going to be great! It has been pretty easy keeping it friendly lately too!

Thankyou :D :D :D

Thanks for all the well wishes. There is an update to the current software but I prefer to move on to the newest version. I plan on backing everything up just in case things go south. Here is a list of modification that I have on the current forum.

phpbb garage-this was a really nice mod but it broke a few years ago and the author quit supporting it-so it will not be missed
Anniversary List--not a show stopper
Anti-bot Question-there is new functionality that should work with the upgrade-a lot of folks hated this one any ways--
Blog-no none used this-killed it shortly after loading it
Easy Resize Posted Images-looks like there may be a fix for this
Hide Bots and Spiders--not a show stopper
Link's in overall header-not a show stopper
Mod Database-no longer required as they are now called extensions not mods
Open links in new window-is available
Random Site Logo-not available-not a show stopper
Top Posters in index-not a show stopper
TS Gallery from older forum-not many folk use it any way-pictures should still be available
Coppermine Gallery Bridge-this will break-again not many folks use it.
Welcome Message-not really needed.

Possibly the roadster theme-not a show stopper. Will work on getting this back as I like it better than the standard theme.

Most folks will probably not even miss any of the above. At this point keeping the threads intact will be the priority.

The old software made modifications difficult. There were multiple files you had to manually edit and a simple syntax error would break things. I tend to fat finger things sometimes. The new uses extensions which all I you have to do is upload the modification to a folder and go into the admin control panel to enable or disable it. Overall the new version will be a lot easier to manage and update. Okay enough of the boring stuff.
