spacer for 13" rims with 6 offset

Post by Markate »

I purchased a set of Australian Riken wheels yesterday for my roadster. They are 13" with a 6 offset. They don't clear the brakes or the ball joint (I think that is what it is).

Anyone have a suggestion on the best way to determine the correct spacer I need to make these work? Is there a calculation I can use?

Thanks,

That might be a tough one...Always heard that the 1600/2000 needed 14 inch or bigger rims to clear the brakes.

Everything I've read and looked at says you need a minimum of a 14 inch wheel to clear the brakes. Roadsters came with a big brake package already. 11.25" rotors are stock. Zs, and 510s have smaller rotors so 13s fit. The only way to make 13 inch wheels fit is to replace the front brakes with smaller custom made rotors and low profile calipers. You are looking at spending big $$$$ to do this, likely more than the wheels are worth.

It can be done, but not with spacers.
The backs should/might fit OK......Used to run Corvair 13" rims before going to 13x7 with a custom offset.

I have been told that you can cut down the rotors and make new caliper brackets to fit 13" wheels.

I would check about a completely different rotor and caliper set-up

I would only do this if you can not live with out those wheels.....Its going to cost $$$$
maybe more than NEW wheels, certainly more than used wheels.

Don't like the wheels that much. I thought I saw people use 13's but I must have been mistaken. Oh well, back on craigslist for these guys.

Thanks for the help.

One more thing about 13"
Good HP tire selection is very slim.......even 14" are getting slim.

The only 13" tire from TireRack is KumhoSolus KR21 175/70 x 13 (Standard Touring All-Season)
They do have a few autocross tires and trailer service tires.

Great point. One of the reasons I wanted to use these were that the tires are in great shape. Bought them for $200, was hoping it could buy me time to buy tires for my other rims while I am restoring them, also would allow us to sell a set of our steelies with tabs for hub caps (if anyone is interested, we have two or three sets of them)
