Discoverd coolingfan has a pinout in the ECM in a SR20DE S15

I was scrolling thru the S15 manual and found pinouts (9 low speed and 10 high speed) for the electric fan. So the ECM is already using sensors in the engine to get his coolant temperature information. one for 90degrees and the second speed for the fan come is at 100 degrees. Now my fan only has one speed, but than I can just use the low speed pin out on the ECM (9) and make a relay to let the fan come in at 90degrees. Now I see everywhere pictures of a fanswitch in a coolant tube installed. Question is if this is possible why whould you make a fanswitch in a coolant tube? If nobody has the answer I go figure it out myself and see if I can use the pinputsignal to see if my fan will work. It saves a lot of wires and makes a switch in a tube unnecessary and it will look better under the hood without one.

If you want the pictures in a PDF form I have it, just PM me.

I think Kevin D. uses an ECU pinout to trigger fans in his SR swaps. I used a Ron Francis fan controller that only requires the installation of a wire on a bolt near a water passage. It is adjustable and also allows me to override the thermostat and turn on the fan remotely.

We have hooked them up both ways, it really comes down to what works for the customer.

If you don't have a 2 speed electric fan you could use 2 separate fans, one for the lower temp and a booster for the higher temp.
I'm guessing you bought the engine only and not a front cut :?:

I only bought an engine, transmission, MAF and ECM. (and put that in my 67.5 lady)
Yuri from wiring specialities had to wire it up, and sended the wiring to me.
I am using a Honda del Sol radiator with electric fan, the one for the most HP. (my engine probably has 165).

We made already a fanswitch in a coolant tube, but now I found out about the pinout on the ECM I want to use that, That makes a smoother look in the front without a fanswitch and the wires leading there.
The electric fan only has one speed, so I want to use the 95 degrees celsius, the first pinout nr.9 on the ECM to turn on my fan. I only need to create a fanrelais to make the thing work. We don't want to use the car for racing so I don't think a 2 speed fan is necessary. Or some one else has to disagree with own experience or I go down this path and find out later (drivingexperience) if my choice was good or bad. (Than I need another electric fan...)

I thought the sylvia used a crossflow radiator with two fans, 1 for low, 2 for high, rather than hi speed
low speed.
Im hoping one fan will be enough. The datsun is much lighter than a sylvia :D

I am using the ECU for fan control on my S14a. Single speed only.Works like a charm.

Hi Steve, I have a SR20DE 14 and need a radiator. I guess I need a fan too. Very new to all this. My car will be beautiful soon but now I'm just buying all the stuff I need. Lots to chose from. I'm about to buy the Honda del sol radiator but not sure if I should buy the fan at the same time or not.

I have a new Honda radiator with a new electric fan mounted and also have the fan mounts from a donor car.
I decided to use the Champion radiator instead.

After some driving experience I bought another radiator, this time a 3 row (instead of 2), also same Honda model. Used the same electric fan, which came withe the 1st radiator. Maybe a more expensive electric fan from a "real" brand will do better? But until now it keeps up. The only 2 things I had to change was the fitting on the frame for the 3 row radiator, different location brackets and the radiator cap, that was leaking.

There is always something to improve, but a lot depends on the money you can spend.

A real SPAL fan works much better. This one do I use with the Honda triple radiator.
