Does this piece replace the whole grid area of the grille? Mine has dings and dents and whatnot, but the surround I think it fine.

The 2L part is just under .030 stainless

The 1500 style for 2L surround is 1/16" stainless

yes, it is the backing panel that bolts to the surround. Bolts up just like o.e.m.
