What is the purpose of these holes in the floor board....

Place to put those little tricks or parts you used during the restoration of your roadster.

What is the purpose of these holes in the floor board....

Post by markjhatch »

See the photo and arrows. These two extra holes are in both the driver and passenger side up near the firewall. The bolt that holds the body to the chassis is just beyond them, so I don't think it is part of the hold down system.

My tendency is to seal them up as I restore the floor. But want to make sure I am not doing something stupid (again...).

Thanks

Mark

Hard to see the size - but if they are about 1 inch - they are for draining

The drain plug is that black thing in the right center on the next rib (hold down bolt i to the right).

The holes are ~7/16" in diameter, almost the same size as the ones used for the sets.

Just to orient everybody, this is on the floor, right up near the front passenger/driver area.

Thanks!

Isn't there an optional "super rare" foot brace that bolts to the hidden holes that are under the floor covering?

I have the same holes in my 70 - just checked. Someone in OZ was making those braces, I think.

I too think it's for the foot brace. They are also useful for soaking your carpet when driving through puddles or in the rain.

Never would have thought that. I had seen occasional mention of a brace, but didn't connect. Thank you! I think I am going to plug it. Would prefer to keep the wife's feet dry...

"foot brace". Is there a picture of this item or is it sarcasm? Never heard of it and a search finds nothing.

It is the accessory foot rest, not brace. It was available from Nissan. The Z had one as well - don't know if it was the same

Sad thing is that the floor pan holes were left open and covered with the sound deadener. You wouldn't know the holes were there until the deadener is removed. Here is a photo of one, not sure if it the correct one but the Nissan part resemble this.Image

Cool! Want one... Although the wife would probably run screaming from the car if she saw it on her side... She keeps asking about air bags...
