Throttle increase has not been smooth. Even babying extra pressure on the accelerator peddle to reach comfortable increase in speed in slow traffic the peddle would resist lightly until overcome, then a lurch as the peddle moved forward. After lubricating all linkages behind pedal, on the front side of the firewall, and everywhere on the carb linkages there was some noticeable but little change. I took the throttle cable out of the tube it passes through and gave the cable and the tube a drenching with silicone spray. That helped but the benefit went away in 6 or 8 drives. Then removed the cable from the tube again and greased it very well. That has brought a lasting improvement that makes the '68 1600 so much more pleasurable. And engine is now returning to normal idle more often without tapping the peddle.

Replaced the dog ones, troubleshot a fuel pressure issue, and reinstalled all the linkages I got back from plating :)

Replaced the front brake pads today. Went with the EBC DP2120 Green stuff pads. I used a medium sized c-clamp to retract the pistons & let the brake fluid out the bleeder screw rather than back into the master cylinder. Then topped it off after each side was re-assembled. The EBC pads are a bit of a tight fit to get them thru the caliper housing, had to tap one or two in with a rubber mallet. But, once they're all the way in, everything went back together easily. I also did not use the optional rubber backing that came in the kit. Did a quick test drive & they're working great. Quiet, plus no more pull to the left. They supposedly are self bedding in the first 100 miles. (not sure why the photos imported sideways...)

FINALLY got SPL311-15213 on the road without having to do repairs to it upon returning home! There was a small car show nearby & we ended up with second place in the classic category! Next is having the top & boot installed. It’s been off the road for 23 years & a two year rebuild.

Got the headlights sorted and halogen bulbs installed. Installed LEDs for the dash illumination. Installed the SU choke cable. Got the wipers working. Wired up the fog lamps (need a H1 bulb for that to be 100%). Fun times.

Replaced alternator pulley after major failure. My spare 2-part pulley is a bit wobbly, but it got me home. Not sure of cause of failure, alternator spins freely. Never seen this happen before. Pat

Wow, that's Crazy! And you actually had a spare with you? That could have been bad news. On my BMW X3 it's known that you have to watch for oil leaks causing the belts to slip off and wrap themselves around the crank pully and then trashing the engine. Things are moving pretty fast in there.

I’ll be back on the road soon!
For future reference or others contemplating doing the same, it's cheaper to buy new inner pistons than to rebuild the old ones. Now if you are not going to run Dot 5, and may not be able to keep up with periodic bleeding to get the moisture out of the lines then rebuilding with SS sleeves might make more sense. Of course outer cylinders are NLA from Nissan so it is rebuild or $225+ from other suppliers.

Parts Geek has the inner cylinders and every couple months runs an extra 5% off sale for a day or two so if you are signed up for emails you will get the heads up. Also there are rebate sites like Top Cashback and Mr Rebates where when logged into your account and you link over to Parts Geek when you purchase you get another 3 to 5% back after a waiting period. Pretty close to $80 plus T&S each when Parts Geek runs their sale. The Pistons I bought from them a couple years back arrived in Nissan boxes and P/N even though you order for the 1960's Jaguar XKE application.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO!

Got the rebuilt cylinders back. Had to replace the rubber seal in one of the outer cylinders. Fluid just poured out of it. No problems now and the car actually stops!

I got a good bit of work done today. I resolved the turn signal issue, repaired the armrest console, repaired some damaged wiring, installed a replacement front turn signal assembly, and then took my wife for the first nighttime drive in 237. Still more to sort, but the list is getting shorter. I think that I need to replace a fog lamp bulb on the Carellos as the old bulb is no where near as bright as the new one. The halogen headlamp bulbs are working nicely though. Worlds better than the Toshiba originals.
