Re: Today's solex maintenance ...

Garm and I have been talking back and forth and he brought up a good question that I couldn't answer. What about messing with the inner venturis? I've considered doing this, but I've never been able to source anything other than what I already have for inner venturis. It seems like this could be another tuning option that is overlooked. Any thoughts?

Unless I am mistaken, there were different inner venturis available at one time, but they would be hard to find now.

Yes, I've found part #s for them, but I can't seem to find anyone with them.

What did Todd at Wolfcreek say? Isn't he the North American dealer for all things Mikuni?

I have no faith in that guy. Apparently he doesn't even have any #8 Jet blocks and is now only using OA jet blocks that don't work in anything but 50 mm or type 2 carbs. If he doesn't have #8 jet blocks (the most common ones made) I doubt he has inner venturis. He doesn't list them either.

I've done some research but don't find any postings where people have tuned the car via the inner Venturi. There are 3 available at about $40 each for a Dell. As a result of this search I did come across some more info on how to adjust the pump rod to get max flow without the linkage hanging up, which was the problem I experienced, so I appreciate that this topic has continued.

I figured I'd post a couple pics of the different Mikuni Jet blocks for quick reference.
Left to right, #8, OA and OB.

Its funny, this thread has been referenced by guys from the Japanese Nostalgic car forum as well. There is a ton of good info here.

Great post Will, this is a great thread, though it goes over my head every now and then and I have to wade through it. I want to try to get a handle on the Mikuni's before I tear into the set I have ready to go on my H20.

Ok, I have another set of pics to add. I'm thinking these are a set of drilled out OAs or OBs, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else seen a set of Mikuni Jet blocks like these? They came in a Hakosuka from Japan, in a set of type 5s. There are no identifying marks on them.

I've never seen a set like this. The other possibility is that they are the "O" blocks that from what I understand are mythical creatures. I can't even find the source that mentioned them at the moment. The Mikuni manual doesn't list them.

In looking a these ones and comparing them to my OA/OBs they would have had to have been machined smooth to drill the holes in them removing the hump that the OA/OBs have. I've never seen them before.

I know a couple of local guys that were BIG into the old Honda Civics - the early 70's ones. They had Dellortos on them and would buy LOTs of jets and emulsion tubes. With some number drills and a pin vise, they would modify them to make them run better. Yes, they ruined a bunch, but in the end, they had some stormers.

These don't have bleed tubes. It looks like the holes down the side act as bleed holes. The car these came out of has a big stumble and I'm guessing this is the reason why.
