Will 280Z Snowflake wheels fit Roadster

Post by BBF Roadster »

I have found a set of 15" 1981 280Z Turbo wheels, and I am wondering if they will fit my 67 Roadster. If so, what size tire would fit best in fenders, and what lug nuts would work.
Thanks

This is what I found on the 510 site http://kmhafer.datsun510.com/wheelchart.htm

'81.5 Datsun 280ZX Turbo Nissan Part # 40300-P9000
BS = 101mm or 3.98"
OS = +12mm

FYI Rim width.....~=(101mm-12mm) X 2 -1 = 6"
backspacing-offset = center of the rim x 2 = total width -1" (1/2" rim thickness x 2) = rim width

They should fit but will be close, so I would go with 185 x 50

They do require special lug nuts which have a wider shank that most other "mag" style lugt nuts - .73 as opposed to .68.

And the lugs that come with them and fit the Z car feel like they tighten up, but they do not. They will strip and your wheels will come off. This has happened to others.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

You are correct...MY BAD!!!!!!

The stock "Z" lug nuts are 12mm and the roadster lugs are 7/16
You need special lug nuts or change your lugs to 12mm and use the "Z" special nuts.

I have a couple sets of '82 280ZX wheels. They are the swastika kind of style - 15 x 6. Those wheels are likely newer, maybe 200SX Turbo? or 300 ZX? I think Ross put a set on someones car for racing?? Don't have any idea of offset. I run 185/65/15 tires with a small amount of rubbing on hard corners.

If I remember, the right 7/16 lug nuts with the correct shank diameter existed at some time, whether you can still get them is another question. Also thought someone made a sleeve to go on a standard lugnut.

Thanks for your replies.
These wheels are 15x6 from a 1981 Turbo 280Z.
Any other feedback would be helpful.

I have a Roadster (being parted) that someone took the time to change all of the studs to 12mm. That is an option.

lug nuts ffor 280 Z wheels

Post by loud »

in case the topic is not completely dead

following threads on this forum found a fellow from OZ who pointed out part number 5001T as having the necessary shape to bolt in ca. 1980 mags like the six spoke and the iron cross

I know these lugs exist because I have them for my 280zx 6spoke wheels. There must be a thread on the lug nuts and where to get them somewhere. Wheel components or some thing like that?
