transmission help

Post by misterarj »

Does anyone know if a 1977 Datsun truck 5 spd is the same or similar to a 280 z or zx 5 spd? I'm doing the L series conversion and have found a truck 5 spd but don't know how it compares. Any useful links? I found some info on Datsun.com but not quite what I needed. Thanks guys. AJ

What specific details are you looking for? If they can physically be interchanged? The gear ratios?

I don't know the answers, but will be happy to try to find them for you.

Misterarj,

Go to Jason Gray's website at http://home.att.net/~jason510/ . He has a wealth of info on trannys, their individual ratios, what fits what engine, bellhousing swaps, the whole 9 yards as far as L series engine/tranny combos go. If the link I provide does not get you there, just go to Yahoo and type in his name. I know all this cuz I own a 71 510 with the L16 engine.

Cool deal on the link! Jason has lots of good info there that can be related to Roadsters (like the weber setup page...)

Length of trans

Ok guys, I appreciate the help and I've gotten a bit more info.

A 280z 5 spd is FS5W71C

A 720 5 spd is FS5W71B

Does anyone know the difference in length or girth?

I have found rebuild kits that show both transmissions using the same kit, so I'm inclined to think they are the same.
