Robert's 67.5 1600

Post by notoptoy »

I debated putting this up on the "Where did you DRIVE this weekend" thread, but decided it was not quite in keeping with the spirit of it all!

Robert has his fairly newly acquired 67.5 1600 in the Daytona, FL area, and I am hanging out in Ocala, FL - just an hour west. We had corresponded a bit via the forum and last week decided we would get together on Sunday so I could check out his ride - plan was to take her for a spin around the "loop" in Daytona/Ormond.

Rightfully, Robert couldn't wait around for me and rolled on Saturday for a test spin with his neighbor and ended up having a float issue - fuel spewing - but that's another story for Robert to tell. Anyway he called me to let me know that we wouldn't be able to drive it and offer me the opportunity to bow out gracefully. Nope, I wanted to see it anyway and wasn't doing anything else in Ocala - so mini-Roadtrip! (side note, arrow straight shot down SR40, mostly 2-lane road - not much driving excitement, but lots of opportunity to practice passing - which can get exciting!).

OK, so Robert's got a really nice ride, and like any true Roadster fanatic has been amassing parts and toys for his Roadster. This is a nice original car with a great paint job and solid body. He is working through some of the sins of the PO and has luckily located a decent mechanic nearby who can handle the SU's! (Fittingly, a Mercedes guy!)

I've attached some pics below. I like how the black-out treatment is handled on this car.

A neat touch is using door edge trim on the front headlight trim - I hadn't seen this before and I think it looks pretty good especially with the black-out paint.
2 Light trim trim.JPG
I also really like the "stock" wheels. The black-out hubcap is nicely accentuated by the Trim rings. Don't know what car the rings are from, but they really work well here.
3 Nice Side view wheels.JPG
Like any good Roadster owner, Robert already has a mile long list of stuff he wants to do to an already nice Ride. Now all he has to do is share them here!
I'm looking forward to going back and actually riding in it next time, soon!

Thanks for coming by, Tom. I will have it running again really soon and look forward to cruising the loop. I have been meaning to start a Members Ride Thread and here one is, I'll get some updates and pictures up soon.

Looking good Robert! Glad you put the parts I sent to good use :-) I really dig the blacked out trim look too - never though I'd say that :-)

Cheers

I knew I needed a new float as my mechanic had sunk it earlier; he soldered the original to get me on the road until I got the part. As it was running great even with the defect, I thought it would be a fine time for a drive. It ran great for about an hour. Pulled over to enjoy the view. Ready to get back on the road; I gave it a good rev to set the mood and immediately was hit with a whiff of gas, but it did not register right away. Drove a few hundred feet with the gas smell and decided to pulled over and investigate. It was horrific to see all this gas spewing out of the overflow and all over the drivers side of the engine compartment and yet somewhat comforting to see due to the design and heat shield doing it's thing nothing was not ablaze. If you still have brass floats; you may get to experience this one day yourself, don't let it happen to you.

Did you design the "67" logo on the side and hood? I dig it. It's got a very original look. Since I'm only 1 week into ownership It's cool to see some well done roadsters with their own original style.

Thanks for the compliments. The P.O. was a painter; he came up with the design and blacked out treatment, I fell in love with it on EBAY and bought it sight unseen. Stay tuned for updates. I am going back to glass fuel filter, original thermostat housing and correct hoses.

I should have these by Monday. I guess at his point I might as well pick up the complete interior kit and be done with it. Does anybody have a spare of the metal cover shown on the left?
