Rebuilding my 67 SRL #00148

Post by Chucks66 »

While I was searching the local wrecking yards for parts for my 66. I heard of a parted out roadster sitting on the side of a house here in Vegas. Just like everyone reading this I HAD to go check it out. So without an exact address (just crossroads) I went driving. I spotted a trunk of a car covered up with a single sheet of ply wood. I could tell it was a low windshield and saw the numbers 2000. After that I had to get a closer look. A woman answered the door and I inquired about the car. She said that it was her late uncles, John C. Heenan. He had told the family he was saving the car because it was rare (parting it out). They had in the past tried to have it removed. Without the title no one would remove it (lucky me). To my surprise she let me in threw the house out to the side yard to take a closer look. Shocked it was a true SRL 2L roadster. It was number 00148. Without thinking I said " Ill take it off of your hands". Holding my breath she said "go for it". I had a tow truck there in 15 minutes. Having it almost a week now I have decided to rebuild it. The first and most important step is to file the paperwork for a new title. Should I wait to get the title or should I continue without it?

More to Come....

Personally, I would get the title before spending a dime. Nice find. I'm going after one this weekend, I know it's a 67.5, but not 1600 or 2000 yet

Find out who the executor of the estate was and get them to give you a bill of sale showing that they are the estate for the late uncle. It can be a bill of sale for $1 or gift - whatever. That gives you legal standing to get a title without having to use a title service unless I am mistaken.

Its been a busy week. I have submited the paperwork for the title. We have removed the body and cleaned the frame. All done under the watchfull eye of Keith Williams. So far so good. Next step is the sandblasting and paint. Then the frame is ready for suspension and breaks.

Had the frame blasted and primed today and now its at Keith Williams house to have the rear cross member repaired. I dont plan on having it powder coated, just gonna have it painted black when Keiths done.
