Wow, that really did balance well. So you used the 2x4 in front and bolts to the seatbelt anchors in the back?

Have to get this in the WIKI, can you snap some pics of it going back in?

Going back in? I snapped some pix and Dan snapped some pix of it coming off but it just went onto a trailer after that.

To get the body perfectly level while hanging on the hoist, I had to push down with about 10# of force on the front.

It was a real blast working with James this afternoon.

In just about 3 hours, the drivetrain was pulled, the body lifted from the chassis, and the chassis loaded into the trailer. I had never removed a roadster body from the frame, so it was a great learning experience. James has the hoist of all hoists ! That thing is like magic.

I'm going to keep it the original silver but switch the interior from black to red. You can see the original color under the dash is silver and it looks really nice underneath.

The paint shop that James chose to paint the roadster body has done some pretty complex jobs. This Hummer (painted by South Coast) won an award at Autorama several years ago.

Dropped off the body today at Southcoast. Next step, drop off the chassis at the powdercoater and get the head and manifolds off the engine.

Yep - resurrecting a car is really cool.

What do you guys think I should do with the engine? It's an original Solex (#641) and the timing chain looks pretty tight looking through the inspection hatch. The carbs are out for rebuild w/ Dave - but does anyone have suggestions for the engine rebuild?

I'm thinking for a base plan to have it hot tanked, get the crank balanced and polished, rods and pistons balanced, etc. What should I replace? Wrist pins and clips? What about the oil pump - how do I tell if it's still good?

I have a balanced aluminum flywheel - should I put that on?

Cheers

If it were me I'd take it to the machine shop and let them tell you what you need. You'll want to know the status of everything or regret it down the road IMHO!

will this be a restoration to "correct" spec or personal interpretation?

Good question Alvin!? My plan now is restoration to correct spec, but with competitive options available at the time. So I'm thinking Panasports, Koni shocks and comp springs, etc. I think I can also work on the guts of the engine as long as it's still the same engine when I'm done.

I like it!
just avoid putting a pink carbon fiber dash and red engine block :P
Are license plate trims still available?
Is the stock exhaust system intact/there?
