New to Cali

Post by ACote »

Hello, I've just arrived at my first duty station at Travis AFB CA. After settling in I bought my 1968 Datsun 2000. So far I have found this site very helpfull. I'll be using the site alot for tips and tech advise. I wont be able to make Slovang, but I plan on making the north cal meet on the 23rd.

Yep that's the meet I was talking about. I feel real lucky that I'm so close to so many datsun locations.

Oh cool, me and my wife would love to take a trip out there. Still need to work on the carburetor before any long drives. Running real rich and wont idle at correct speed.

I have the same steering wheel, not very common. Car looks nice.
Basic crappy rich high idle stuff to check, beyond normal sync and mixture.
Check the carbs for return springs, one each, and make sure the choke cable casings are in their little "cups" on the carbs and the nozzles are coming all the way back up.
Be sure there is a little slack in the throttle cable
Just while you are there, check carb oil, I use ATF
be sure to check the piston drop when the caps are removed from the carbs, they should both drop pretty quickly and equally with a nice "thunk" when they hit bottom. with the iol filled and the caps back in, they should drop equally, but smoothly and slower.
