Sounds good!

I've been working on some diagrams to show how this works. Here's the first.

The new, wider collar is shown in red. This pushes the hub out to create enough clearance for the Altima rotor, which is thicker than the stock roadster rotor. A new shorter castle nut is also needed.

Ahh, like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words....thank you.
Sorry if I'm rehashing a question or concern that's been asked before. It looks like the effect of the spacer is to position the inner and outer wheel bearings further out on the spindle such that the a portion of the inner race is no longer supported.
Is there any concern about longevity or safety, especially with wider than stock wheels or tires?

Great question. I think the over hang is a bit exaggerated in Leigh's pic, but I'm in the shop today working on the spacers....I'll take some pics and post some more info on it a bit later.

mike, i have a question after watching your videos... shouldnt the spacer be a interference fit so it does not turn on the spindle. when i install the spacers should i use some sleeve locking glue? id hate to have it spin on the spindle and cause a failure.

its gonna be a while before i get around to installing my stuff as we are in the coldest part of winter.... and my shop is not insulated

Technically, the only way they will spin is if there's no lube on the seal and it grabs it....unlikely.....or the bearing's inner race spins and grabs it. The bearing's race shouldn't spin, the friction caused by the load on it should never ever come close to the resistance of the rollers and grease. But.....yes, I don't want it to spin and I've made them interference fit. The one you see in the vids that slides on/off easily is a prototype made that way for testing. :) I used to make everything slip fit and include loctite bearing and shaft retainer, but the last batch of truck stuff and these are all "heat to fit".

Not familiar with uploading pics to this site yet, so these are still PB links.....

I think the pics will tell the story and let you see the answer to your question about bearing engagement on the spindle. I personally wouldn't have a problem running this, but it's your decision. :)


The stock spacer is off to the side in one pic because I hadn't opened up the center to slip on yet. In a later pic, you'll see it under the bearing...there's an "N" on it. The point of the 1/4" dowel pin is because of the cage being higher than the race. It's exactly .500" (1/2"). In the last two pics, it's just for visual reference.

Looks like the bearings ride nicely on the spindle smooth spot still.

Hi gang, two things: I did no such modification or addition with different collars n such on the Toyota/Maxima set up using the maxima rotor... As far as I can tell, everything works fine. So, either the maxima disc does not require this, or I have a problem waiting to occur. I am not using the dust shield, but I don't think that would make any difference but it has been several years since I looked at one closely.

Second thing; I did a quick and terrible pic set and write up on my set up in case anyone didn't see it... under Toyota/Maxima brake mod or something to that effect.

Great pictures, thanks Mike. When you take the chamfer on the inner race into account it looks like there's plenty of support for the race doesn't it? I agree, I don't see a problem.
