Garnett Kansas (LGGPR.com) last Saturday and Sunday. While just a fraction of the miles Ted does on his drives, my 20 or so miles were all at high intensity, and as the views around the lake were nice, the views of headlights in my mirror getting smaller and the tail lights through my windshield getting larger was exhilarating. In my first session (80mph limit) I chased a couple of MGB’s who payed no attention to the 45 mph (for safety reasons) speed limit section around the Dam. Since I tried to “play nice” they got a big gap on me each lap and it would take me half a lap to catch up again. It’s very hard to pass in the two allowable passing zones without help from the driver ahead of you, but on the next to last lap I got the maroon MG and was able to catch but not pass the yellow one who had pulled away on the last lap. The enclosed short video shows the first lap and how big a gap the MG’s were getting on me through the speed limited section.
In the second session I gridded in between the two MG’s. The pack was led by a highly modified BMW 2002, a beautiful Porsche 356, a very fast 510, and then a race prepared early Mustang, one of the MG’s then me. There was a C3 Corvette, a Cobra replica, a Corvair, and a couple of other cars that I can’t recall bringing up the rear. The pre 1985 80 mph class must have been the smallest group this year, as most of the groups had 20 or 25 cars. Total registration was 190 something with a few last minute entries expected.
I was able to dispatch the MG on the first lap and gave chase to the Mustang. The BMW pulled off on the second lap and our group of 4 soon had about a straightaway gap on the rest. We all ran about 10 car lengths apart until the Porsche slowed a bit and let the Mustang by. I was able to pass the Porsche the next lap and close up to the Mustang again. I just didn’t have the acceleration out of the corners he had to do anything about him.
All in all it was a great weekend. My car ran flawlessly and I even had a respectable outcome in the autocross, you can see results on LGGPR.com.

Well, seems I can’t figure out how to get the video out of my albums and onto here. Any advice?
Mike M

Post the video on YouTube (it’s quite easy to do) and then paste the link here. We’d love to see it.

I’ll see what I can do. It’s only a 30 second clip showing the gap. Here is a link to a in car video that Mannon (Zero/nil/nada) posted from last year. It’s a nice 1600 Stroker that’s driven very well!

Saturday evening drive in Sora with my neighbor and his '59 MGA.

He recently had the single Weber DGV carb replaced with correct MGB-spec twin-SU induction and a tune. It really moves now!
