Redirad 12 volt Negative Ground Radio Transmitter

Post by DnCrs13 »

Great product!! I just received and hooked up my Redirad transmitter to my recently rebuilt stock radio and for the first time I can listen to music in my roadster! The hook up is really simple, it took me about 1 hour. Unfortunately my speaker is not great, but I can listen to my ipod now and keep the factory look. Check them out at http://www.rediscoveradio.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Made right here in the great state of WI. Thanks to Patti for showing me this product and thanks to Keith and his Dad for rebuilding my radio. Everything works great!!

Very old post but maybe you can still answer. I just came across this product and it's still being sold. I like the idea of listening to the stock radio, the speaker and radio i have are working well. Does this product have problems with interference and static?

I have it installed in my Roadster and it works beautifully - no problems!

It's very cool driving down PCH on an early weekend morning with period-correct tunes coming out of the old system.

I will be taking my car to the Peterson Museum's Cruise-In this Sunday (7-9) if you'd like to see my setup.

Yep. It's a nice event with some great cars. The Peterson does things first class with free coffee and bagels. Plan on getting there around 7:00 to get a decent spot.

Hey J. just got the unit in today and have a very noob question for you. Black wire is ground, red wire into fuse box but to which fuse? The one labeled common?

Does this unit have any extra draw on the system? Important to know with the stock alternator and stock wiring.
Thx

FM model 'idles' at around 7 milliamps (0.007 A) and draw about 40 milliamps (0.040) in RediRad mode.
AM models 'idle' at around 25 milliamps (0.025 A) and draw about 150 milliamps (0.150 A) from a 12V system in RediRad mode.

I wired mine in parallel with radio and ran the plug for my phone (I use Pandora) to the center console box. It really works great - nothing like a modern radio system, but it gives you a very time-machine feeling going down the road.

Greydog, my radio only had AM. Redirad seems to be the only vendor making an AM modulator. At least the only one I found.

Thanks

There are three versions of the Redirad; AM Positive Earth, AM Negative Earth and FM Negative Earth. If you have an FM Stereo radio, then stereo output from your phone, mp3 player, DAB or whatever will be in stereo. AM radios are mono apart from a few attempts at AM stereo in the 1960's but they never took off.
