Hi Steve- Who did you buy the bumpers from? Also, were you able to reuse the rivets connecting the cable release in the seat to the leveler on the back of the seat? Mine are really chewed up so I'm looking to replace with a low profile captive nut but am open to other ideas. I've followed your guidance on the seat restoration and they have been spot on. From using 24' of webbing to powered coating. So far, so good. THANKS

Do you mean the rubber bumpers for the seat bottoms? I bought them from McMaster-Carr. This is what I ordered-they come in a pack of 24. Cheap enough. That Pirelli webbing is good stuff.

Rubber Bumpers

Not much progress on the roadster yet this year. I have a lot of body work to do and am still gathering some metal working tools so I can make all of my own patch panels. Plus I have plenty of other projects I need to get done before I tackle that. Have you upholstered them yet? How about a picture if you have?

Thanks for the link. I just got the seats back from the powder coating. They look just like your pictures by the way. Webbing is done. Now once I get the seat release mechanism figured out, it's off the the upholstery shop. Vinyl and Seat Pads from Dean. Once I figure out how to up load pics, I'll add a few. I've owned the car for about 3 months now and am having a ball. New tach, weather stripping in the windows, new Solex breather, new battery w/ brackets (I removed the bungie cord tie downs.... I know, I'm a purest), new fuel lines, rear brakes and replaced the drums, .....

Body work is being saved for the winter as I also need to make some patches and weld them in.

Pat,

Boy, those new foam seat pads sure are tempting. My old foam is still serviceable and with the new webbing I think I will be okay. I did purchase some new foam for the backs as well as some burlap to put between the foam on the seat bottoms and the webbing. The issue with the old seats was the webbing which had literally melted on the drivers side due to the exhaust being right below the seat. Whomever was driving this car before they tore it down was literally sitting on the floor pan. It had to be a hot seat for sure.

I can help you post some pics when you get your seats back from the upholster. Have you posted any pictures of your car? You should start a post in the Members Garage so we can see your project.

Not a lot of progress so far unfortunately. I still need to buy a few more goodies so I can make my own patch panels. I did take the dash to the powder coaters this week. Once I get that back I will install the bling gauges Jon did for me as well as the harness Curtis made for me. At least that will be ready to go in the car when ready.

Got the dash back from the powder coaters. They did a great job. Started putting the bits back on it including the refurbished gauges. I am missing the bolts that hold the temp/oil and the amp/fuel in place. Will source some of those so I can get them installed. Looking good.

Got the dash done today. Hooked up most of the new wiring harness. Need to get to work on the patch panels soon.

Going to build a new rotisserie as I need to be able to roll the body to work on the patch panels. I bought a couple of 1000 lb engine stands that are straight not laid back from Harbor.

1000 lb engine stand

I will use my brother's old frame for mounting the car tub and mount it to the new engine stands. My goal this trip is to get the bottom of the tub patched and seal it with bed liner. I am not making as much progress as I would have liked but I have been working on dashes and other bits. There are plenty of other projects that have gotten in the way as well. Being retired does not mean you have more time. I am amazed I got anything done when I was working full time. I really do hope to get this project completed next year.

I've found that since I retired my big projects don't progress any faster than they did before retirement. Now, I stay busy all day long, it's just every time I go to do a project I see a tool that needs repair, or an area that needs to be reorganized, or...... Always some little something that I've been putting off for years that I finally have time to attend to. Oh, the many breaks to escape the heat doesn't help either :D

If your bored during retirement then your not doing it right :smt003

My brother came down for a couple of days and we got the rotisserie built and it works great. I was a little worried about stability without extending the back legs but it will not tip over and is very solid. I cannot roll the car tub over completely but I can tip it enough to work on the bottom easily. I can maneuver the tub by myself with little effort. The only thing I may change someday is the wheels on the rear support from fixed to swivel. It is not that hard to move since the tub is not too heavy. Now, I can get started on replacing the damaged rusted metal.

A couple of shots of the passenger side rot. The inner rocker on this side is all but gone, so I will repair that before putting the outer skin back on.

Let the metal patching begin sooner than later.
