Nice work! I'm thinkin you wouldn't be getting all this fine detail work done if your main project wasn't 500 miles away??

I love this attitude and observation... seeing the positives of whatever the situation is and using the circumstances to your best benefit. This is how one successfully navigates through a huge undertaking like restoring a car when it inevitably challenges you. Same in life.

And yes Peter (Iloveredmeat)... I do work in mental health, and I have been a life coach! But in my life time line, my experience with the Roadster restoration happened first and taught me much about life. That's why I am so supportive of those who undertake these things because you can learn so much about yourself it can eclipse the car itself. Whenever I'm down or doubting myself or life, I can go into the garage and see what I can accomplish if I just keep positive, put my head down and keep going forward with a plan and a vision. And like my life (or anyones) my car is not perfect, but that's OK with me... we're all a work in progress!

I've often used cars as a metaphor for a person to help them understand their own strengths and design and to overcome past perceptions of failure. For example, we all know a formula one race car is awesome (and successful) on the track... 200mph, amazing cornering, incredible down forces etc. But you put that same car on an off-road course with rocks and mud bogs and logs and it's gonna beat the hell out of itself and likely fail. So, what's the issue; the car or the course it's on? Clearly it's the course, but UNLESS YOU KNOW what kind of a car you are you may very well end up on an off-road course when you're actually a formula one racer AND NOT EVEN KNOW IT.

Do what you love, do what you're good at, and build a life from there.

Wow. Thanks for all the support! Nice to know all that work is appreciated, and that y'all think they look as nice as I think they do.
spl310 wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:29 pm They look nice! I need to rework one and buy one of the Vietnamese surrounds.
Those would have made it a bit easier, but a little more expensive, and there's something about thick new chrome.
notoptoy wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:34 pm That is some amazing detail work and looks fantastic. Any progress is good progress! Keep up the great work.
Thanks, and one thing less to work on once it's up and running.
theunz wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 9:18 pm Fantastic! You could probably pay for your restoration by restoring grills for others. Something tells me however that you would end up working for minimum wage😱
I've thought about it! This restoring parts stuff is the only "Roadster fix" I get the majority of the time.

The Roadster Fund could use it, and the amount of work is much more than I expected. Hoping for the right buyer someday!

Spot on, Soupy. At least not before it ran.

That is sooo cool. I knew it!

And this project is already way beyond the car itself, if even just for the 'reconnection' with my brother and his family. Plus, I really do love learning and since I knew nothing about cars, and now know a teeny bit more than nothing about cars, it's rewarding in that sense.

Your support of others is really admirable. Thanks from me, and on behalf of others.

Peter the Car Guy! 100%! I finally got around to reading your entire thread and it's full of motivation and inspiration. It seems like all the pieces of the puzzle are going to fall together nicely. Kudos! I get asked all the time "how do you know how to do that?" And I tell them every time, "you just figure it out." I know you stated initially that you went into this project without the necessary confidence or knowledge, but you found it along the way. I suspect this will just be the first of many successful projects. The journey is the best part. Cheers! Jeff

Hey, Thanks Jeff!

I'm still winging it in a lot of (most?) ways, but I reckon you're right: I have gained confidence. Could never have done it without this forum.

The fact that you're getting something from my journey means a lot – especially considering what an awesome job you did on your Spider.

I agree John, Greg seems to be a pretty right-on guy.

I'm really sorry you're having to go through cancer. But I've seen firsthand from my wife, that beating cancer can be done, and it's so much about being positive and being badass tough...

Praying for you, man. You can do it.

Being a dad, doing a father/daughter project, fightin' the Big C... sounds badass to me.

Good on ya.

Hardest thing I have ever done was ton learn how to braid and do pony tails when she was younger, 16 and driving i guess the positive from losing my hair from radiation is that I have no hair to pull while she chauffeurs me around whilst learning :)
