Less than $60 for a new starter on ebay. Going to pick up a spare and get rid of some of these original ones I have.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.

To remove the starter you have to "open the door". Cut out the diagonal brace part just to the left of the starter. Then it comes out through the wheel well.

i have owned 5 70's. never seen the 'door'

is this just for earlier cars??

I've cut out 2. One on a 70 1600 and the other on my 70 2000, just saying
'70 SRL311
'10 GMC 2500HD

Mine is a '67. When I went to pick it up when I first bought it in 1999 the owner was just welding the door closed. He had cut along the top and bent it out, so that he could get the starter out and get it rebuilt. I cut it completely out and made a replacement that unscrews for removal.

68-70 don't need the door since they changed the area where on the early cars you have to remove the triangle. Datsun issued a service bulletin detailing to cut out the triangle and rivet it back in to change the starter. The 68-70 cars are more open in the area with boxed sheet metal support that slopes up higher.
